Looks like it could be a great film. I'm thinking Oscar nom for Smith.

saw the preview in the theatre. I hope it does well, given the subject matter.

He should have gotten one for Ali.

He was AMAZING as Ali..too bad the movie itself was very very mediocre.
Then again Jamie Foxx got his Oscar for a great performance but a mediocre movie.

I believe Denzel Washington won that year for Training Day. He's a great actor, but that wasn't even close to being his best performance. Smith really deserved it. He was Ali in most of that movie.

And I never understood that movie was so cooly received by critics and the public. I quite enjoyed it. Smith, Foxx and Voight were all brilliant in it.

Not only did it have to stand up on its own, it had to avoid the appearance of being fanboyish and sanitized because the subject matter was involved, and compete with the real life Ali and his legend. I mean, it's not like A Beautiful Mind where they were tackling a guy who wasn't as well known and whose story even less so. Ali is only the most compelling athlete of the 20th Century.

I like the fact that they didn't glorify his tale too much. He still came accross looking iconic, but he was human as well. I think a lot of people were probably put off by that tone, but I think it's what made the movie work as well as it did.

I'm ready to see this movie. Wonderful story and the previews look to be great. I liked how Will Smith said his kid is in the movie and actually stole scenes.
