cassano? god save us.
Why so he can dive around and be a pain in the ass? Parker would punch him out within the first month anyways.

Looks like Gooch is going to sign with Fulham for 1.9mil. ******** he would have been a great pick up at that price.:(

I'm not as sold on his transition to the Prem as most might be. I think it's going to take a long time for him to adjust, and for us needing immediate help that's not a good thing. All he'll really do at the beginning, imo, is persistently give away fouls and win the odd header in the box.
And besides, that's good news, because Fulham is buying all the Americans up, which means they'll talk a big game and wilt on the big stage. One less club to worry about. :D

I don't think it's a done deal yet. Another site has him flying to Italy today for talks with AC Milan.
I don't have time now to refute your statements regarding Gooch's skills (I'm at work) I will say that imo he's a lot better central defender than anyone else on our squad and as bad as the USA Nats are I couldn't see any of our central defenders starting for the USA, let alone being defender of the year in Belgium.

I didn't mean to say that he's not more skilled than Ramage or Bramble or the kiddies at CB, rather that his style of play (at least from what I saw in the World Cup) lends himself to commit a ton of fouls, which with the high-tempo English game would likely mean a lot of dangerous free-kicks and persistent fouling yellow cards. I think having him along that back line would be a good thing in the long term, but the short-term adjustment would involve a lot of growing pains that we don't exactly need right now. We need stability at the back, and soon.

Word on the street is that we are close to a deal for Wes Brown and we are interested in Marlon Harewood now.

I'm not overwhelmed by either of those players but we could certainly do worse.

They have more quotes from Shay on nufc.com. One of them is great...
"It's a very young back four playing alongside Nobby, who is at least 56. That deserves a lot of credit."
It's good to see Shay can have a upbeat attitude, even though he has no protection and is saving the team by himself.

Roeder to ponder loans (http://www.football365.com/story/0,17033,8652_1815999,00.html) for cover.
"What I do not want to do is to sign players who we will be lumbered with for the next three and a half years. There is a saying in football that while you cannot hide good players, you cannot get rid of bad players and we want to avoid that."
a bit lower down:
"the St James' Park Group, led by American hedge fund Polygon, announced that it will not be making a bid for the club.
A statement released to the Stock Exchange this morning read: "St James' Park Group Limited confirms that it is no longer in discussions regarding such possible offer and has no intention of making an offer for Newcastle United PLC at this time."

why do I have the feeling that we can expect the same thing to happen in this transfer window as happened over the summer?

I've got a sneaky feeling that Newcastle will not make much of a splash in the window.....as in, maybe sign another random player. But, hopefully it works out like Sibierski has.

I think us and SWP makes absolutely no sense, but Milner keeps being linked away. Again, I would be very disappointed if he were dealt.
I also think this Transfer window is going to be quiet. Kind of had some hopes a couple of weeks ago, but with Talks of loan signings and not really much available out there, I'm not so optimistic.

Only if it were a loan move would it make any sense at all, and that's because Duff is always knackered, Zogs is still hurt and Emre and Dyer hate playing on the left.
