So instead of building a midfield strong team like everyone else, I'm thinking about spicing it up with a studly Counter attacking team. How weak should my midfield be compared to my defense for this to work?

your midfield should be strong enough to get about 45% possesion w/o playing counterattack.

w/o playing counter attack? I'm confused.
I'm saying that I want a team that is effective WITH CA.

I'm saying that I want a team that is effective WITH CA.He means that your "normal" midfield strength with the CA formation should be 45%. When you choose CA, you then get another 7% penalty on midfield and should be a bit above 40% possession which is considered good for CA. For successful CA, you basically need:
- a strong defense (considerably better than the opponent's attack),
- as much possession as possible, but less than 50%,
- and a strong attack in at least some sectors (i.e., the center or both wings) if not all of them.

The midfield penalty for CA should actually top out just under 2% possession.

yeah, you still want a competitive midfield. Don't understand these guys who go for 15% - course they're younger teams...
