We're off until Monday--be safe, and on this most American of holidays, gain a few pounds. Then work out.

That last article, by the way, took up most of the front page of the sports section in the Post and a good chunk of the second. There were nice graphics that went with it showing a player-by-player breakdown. (http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/graphic/2006/11/22/GR2006112200097.html)

This is probably the first time since the WUSA folded that the women's game got that kind of treatment. Nice to see.

I only wish the LA Times did as well as the Washington Post today on the women, especially since the game is here. This story was in the on-line edition only:

One thing I have wondered after reading some articles involving Charlie Davies is where does the salary figure come from? One of the articles mentions a particular number, like 300,000USD or something for a minimum salary for foreign-born players in Europe, but I know an American that plays in Europe and isn't making nearly that much, so I was wondering if anyone knew more about this issue. Thanks.

Thanks. I think the article was a little mistaken. I think that's the minimum as as a foreigner on the first team of a first division club in Holland. In other countries or lower divisions, you can certainly make less than that.
