I put an (R) 'cause this has to do with Celtic - Man U today, so if you don't know what happened, stop here.
The last 25 minutes of the Celtic/Man U Champions League game today was simply awe inspiring. The buildup, the tension, the at best borderline call, and then the free kick, then the frantic attempt at a comeback, another close free kick call, the yellow and hand ball, and THEN the stonewall of the PK, made for the highest of soccer drama.
And then, just as important, and really more so, after the victory, 80,000 in full throat, all green and white and Celtic and more, singing whatever it is, I don't even know or remember, we walk alone or something. Incredible. One of the greatest moments in Celtic history and everyone relishing the moment, full roar. I just stood there from so far afar, witnessing it, mesmerized.
I'm sure some of the rest of you saw it. No matter who you were or were not rooting for (I'm a mild Celtic fan at best), were you as awestruck as I was by the whole spectacle?
The Beautiful Game. :)

You'll Never Walk Alone.
P.S. Celtic was the green and white team. Brush up on your Pink Floyd too.

Having to endure a Celtic side that sat back all game Martin O'Neill style and contribute nothing to the game, then cheat for a set-piece goal is not beautiful. Neither is watching a Man Utd side that did not bother to push on or go for the win, instead being happy to pass the ball aimlessly around the middle of the park and wait for a draw. Finally, to see however many bigots, gloryhunters and plastic paddys creaming themselves at the final whistle was the final nail in the coffin of what was a truly awful game for the spectator and any genuine fan of football. I'm frankly embarrassed to be a fan of one team and have the other represent my country (Scotland, not Ireland).

I have to admit, I only SAW the last 35 minutes of the game, so I didn't witness the first half when it sounds like Celtic sat back for most of it.
Still, those last 35 minutes were incredible, unless you're a Man U fan or a Celtic hater or a combo thereof.

well, i hope the thread doesn't continue that direction.
to a largely neutral, yet informed, soccer fan, it just reminded me why I love this beautiful game. for an American, that kind of tradition, that kind of communal passion and spirit shown by the fans, ON TOP of that kind of competitive drama, is something to behold. and savor.
that's why i put it in the beautiful game thread.

I enjoyed the game from a neutral perspective, not the highest quality but certainly an entertaining and frenetic last third of the game.
It also needs to be said that the ref got almost every major decision wrong.

It was a crap game. And yes most Celtic supporters are plastic paddies.
