Very sad. I'll remember him as the man who had the balls to stand up to Hollywood (I loved "The Player").

I'll remember him as a one-of-a-kind director, and arguably the best of his generation.

I've got Nashville saved on my TiVo. Prolly gonna watch that tonight.

That's a shame. Really good director, although he had his fair share of stinkers (Prarie Home Companion??). I think Gosford Park was his last good film.

While he has an unusually long list of accomplishments, he also has an unusually long list of clunkers, as well, with Popeye and Pret-a-Porter usually topping that list.
