Figured a thread about this album was in order. For those who aren't sure, it's an album of Beatles mashups that was done for the Cirque de Solei show of the same name. George Martin, the Beatles producer, and his son were in charge (with approval from the camps of each of the Beatles).

From the tracks I've heard, it's VERY good. The reviews have also been excellent, at least the one's I've seen.

Anyway, it goes on sale today and I'm off to get my copy in an hour or so. I'm curious to hear the entire album and your thoughts on it.

I saw Love in Vegas this past summer, it's incredible. I hadn't been to any other Cirque performances and now I'm curious (but I think I'll hold out for the Elvis one that's in the works). The show is in the old Sigfried and Roy Theater at the Mirage. It's been refurbished so there are speakers behind every seat so the sound is amazing but unlike some of the other Cirque show theaters in Vegas it's pretty intimate. I want to go again because, alas, it's a circus so there is so much going on at one time you feel you're missing some stuff trying to take it all in.

Today's Washington Post gave the soundtrack a great review, and it is pretty damn cool. http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2006/11/21/AR2006112100234.html

I just got it and listened to the first three tracks on the way home. Here's my official review of said tracks:

'WOW'

I agree. This could have been a real screwup, but Sir George's son really did a great job in the mash-up of the Beatles music.

Is a 'mashup' what we used to call a 'remix' back in the 80s?

What exactly was done to these tracks? Did they splice several different takes together? Did they add non-Beatles stuff to the originals? I'm totally not familiar with the Cirque du Soleil show so I'm not sure what the deal is with this album.
