ello ladies and gents......

i've just been looking at a pair of boots on eurosport and shipping to the uk is set at 35USD. there is also this little message:

International customers will be required by their country to pay duties and taxes before they receive their package. These rates vary by country. Please take note of this extra cost. It is not included with your Eurosport merchandise and shipping charges.

anyone know how much this customs cost is???? or if indeed there is any way of getting around it?

Thanks in advance.

I think you won't have much at all really..I bought a shirt from the UK, and had no taxes so really I don't know it might be included in the shipping costs. I do know that Eurosport is quality :)

Why not order from Pro Direct? Maybe you've your reasons . . .
It just strikes me as funny, 'cause I know a few people (myself included) who'd love to order from PD, as opposed to Eurosport, but feel the shipping costs/hassle is too outrageous.

Best of luck, however you proceed.

The reason things get taxed is because things that are made or distributed from abroad aren't already taxed by the British government. This is why the charge is added in the first place, apparently it's "import duty". Cuntish I know.

All goods, new or used, imported into the EU are subject to Import Duty and VAT according to their value and import tax classification. All goods imported into the UK need to be declared, and as this is a big company you're buying from I doubt they will go through the motions of the usual tricks to get around it (labelling the customs declaration to say the goods are a gift, or goods returning to the uk, as they can't be taxed twice).

The import duty itself averages at between 5% and 9%, but in extreme cases it can fall between 0 and 85%. Really depends on what it is.

So the way it works is like this:

Value of goods
PLUS shipping and insurance costs to the UK = A

A + import duty (average 5% - 9%) = B

B + VAT at 17.5% = C

Then you take the original amount you paid (value + shipping) off C, and that leaves you with the import duty that you pay.

Best thing to do, as it is a luxury item, is to get into contact with Customs and Excise and see exactly what category football boots fall into. Once this is done, you can see exactly how much you will need to pay, then determine if it is worth it or not.

Haha, I know your situation mate...except you've got tons of other UK online shops to choose from! I've needed help like this before as well.

Guess who bought a England shirt from Kitbag.com two years ago and from the original cost of 40 pounds, after South African import costs the price went up to about 70???!!! It wasn't even funny...I've never even worn it now because the thought just sickens me!

OH, and South African import duty is 40%, on items you can't even find here...idiots!

looks like all the imports originating in US and A are subject to 17% import duty....and THEN to another 17.5% VAT!!!!!!! Come on ppl, save me from this institutional theft!!!!
