Iran in World Cups [Archive]

Iran has had a rudimentary advance in soccer, yet, in France 1998, they beat USA 2-1, and lost to Germany only 2-0, compared to Saudi Arabia's loss to Germany 8-0. Do you think Iran will qualify for the 2006 World Cup in Germany?

hopefully. rezaei is a top notch defender, and ali karimi is very exciting, even though he's a bit selfish with the ball.

i'd like them to represent the afc along with south korea and japan.

you better believe we will qualify. Damn Saudi Arabia, they suck so bad, they are on my hate list with Germany and Mexico, so thats bad. But it's time for Iran to prove everyone wrong and have a good showing in 2006.

Korea, Japan, Iran

World Cup 06 quarter-finalists. Wouldnt that be great? I guess I can dream (it could happen tho!).

iran will qualify for the world cup but then fail to advance due to ending up in a group with USA (revenge), England, and Morocco

We fluked pretty badly. When that game agains Bahrain happened...damn. I still find it hard to be the reality. NO ONE WAS PLAYING THEIR WORTH! NOT A SINGLE PLAYER! That's what hurt so much. Because that wasn't Iran that went on the field, that was another team. And its for these very same reasons I suppose many of the consipracy theories came about. Because that simply did NOT look like Iran, and it was IF there had been a force over them.

However, once one comes to their senses, they will realise that we had this comming for a long time.

From 1996-1998, when we were the "hot thing" of Asia, when we had the best trio any Asian team had, when our squad was bursting with young players who played like they were experienced, it was then were we should have invested heavily in our football. It was then were we should have made our league professional, when we should have built mass amounts of football acadamies accross the country, when we should have had club exchange programs with giants such as InterMilan and Munich, when we should have been sending out our coaches all over the place in Europe and opening up mass amounts of coaching schools accross he country.

However, we did not do those things then. From 1999-2002, all we have been doing my friends is living off those "wonder years". The 3 Amigos are no longer around to pull our weight. Two have retired and the one that is left is 33 years old, so he probably has only a few years left.

We have only recently started to do those things. I hope we may be able to see the fruits come WCQ. The U19 made my hopes go down, but if you go to the Asian Boards, you can check up on the progress of the U23 in preparing for the Busan Asian Games. Now that is a side that makes me really hopeful. In seeing their recent streak of victories, it has made me somewhat forget about U19 horrid failure. Their camp in Croatia ended with all victories. Hopefully they can continue when they start the next camp in Slovakia...

I hope that's how the groups get drawn.

Hopefully get Australia and Guatemala en-route to the final.
