According to a well known source I have, Setanta Sports USA is coming to Verizon FiOS TV. This is terrific news and should be arriving either in the next two months or early 2007.

How many homes have FiOS penetrated?

I was looking at FiOS a year ago because they offered ESPN Deportes, even before Dish Network did.

If people here complain about why they can't get DirecTV for Setanta (because they are commited to 23 years of cable), why they can't get Dish Network for ESPN Deportes (because they are commited to 32 years of cable), how do you think any channel getting added to the FiOS lineup will help these whiners?

We don't have a clear line of sight to the satellite, or condo agreements don't allow setting up dishes, etc.

FiOS TV sounds nice but most of us can't get it yet, either. If Setanta is now on DirecTV and FiOS, that will increase pressure for cable companies to carry Setanta, which is a good thing whatever you may think about cable TV.

Frankly your attitude is insulting and not very helpful at all.

Only took 2 replies for you to show up, nice.

Verizon should be rolling out in New Jersey quite soon, so this is good news. And even if all it does is force cable companies' hand to also add Setanta, that's a good thing.

Whose attitude is more insulting? If futbol is so important to you why didn't you do enough research before you commit to live in a condo/apartment that

- doesn't allow setting up dishes (which is against the law if your landlord/HOA prohibit residents from setting up a dish of < 1m)?
- doesn't have a LoS to the south (which can be classified as your ignorance)?

I mean, these excuses have been used by your camp for 399320 years. Can you come up with something new?

I love soccer.

But I'm not going to base a decision for a property worth $450,000+ on the difference btw cable and satellite. Public school rankings (even though I doubt have children), quality of life issues, nearby services, ability to resale etc. are legit reasons.

Anybody that does base it on cable/satellite, frankly, is stupid and foolhardy w/ their money.

Not only that but the soccer TV landscape in the USA changes all the time. Last year Deportes was barely available at all and Setanta USA didn't exist except as a pub channel. Next year... who knows? One or both could be on cable anyway.

The content of the various soccer channels also changes alot from season to season. One year a channel might be worth going out-of-your-way a bit to get. The next year, the channel could be total crap. A perfect example is Fox Sports World Canada.

Considering all that, you'd have to be a total plank to uproot your life just to get a few extra soccer matches at home in the short term.

And howcome LoS to the south isn't one of the reasons?

I have said it 98403954 times before. You make a housing decision based on school system, neighborhood safety, convenience to commute, and many other reasons. Yet the realization of your passion (your own words: "quality of life issues") is deliberately left out of the equation such that you have to

- commit to 32 years of cable and ESPN2
- commit to 32 years of non-carriage of two channels that carry many champions League games.

Keep the excuses coming...

Yeah, and a house of $450000 cannot co-exist with a satellite dish? So who's stupid and foolhardy with their money?

Your house is worth that little probably because potential buyers think that they cannot get ESPN Deportes or Setanta USA from your lot...

Um.

I'd rather have, you know... sex than to fight my wife over something so trivial and economically moronic.

I don't need more soccer. There's plenty available for me w/in my options. And I'm happy about that.

Now. If I were to insist, "No honey. We can't take this place, even though it would go perfectly w/ the furniture we've spent the last decade acquiring, it's close to both your friends and mine, and its 20 minutes less commute time each way every day...

"We need to take another place, our 3rd option. Yeah. I know you'll be more tired from the extra commute, and that wouldlead to less sex. But you see... I need to watch 12 hours of soccer a week instead of 6.

Yeah. I know that the more soccer I watch, the less sex we have."

Dude. If I were to have that conversation, I'd be divorced. No ********ing thanks. I like the steady sex.

I'm willing to forego a couple extra Euro league matches per month, thank you very much.

You should tell the realtors of America 'bout your stunning study.

Euro soccer is sooooooooooooooooooooooooo popular in the US that your home is worth 10% more!!

Are you serious????

Oh, you mean sex and watching soccer are exclusive? that's interesting.

You probably don't. But there are plenty of people here who need Setanta for its coverage of Premiership and Champions League. That's why they claim this news with FiOS as "good news". Why would anyone who don't need "more soccer" think that as "good news"?

Yeah. I know that the more soccer I watch, the less sex we have."
Are you in the sex business or something? You are probably the only person I know with that limitation...

Within 15 miles of where you live, there are plenty of million $ homes that don't prohibit satellite dishes. I live about 20-25 minutes from where you are, and my house is worth much more than yours. Yet I still have 6-8 dishes installed.

So spare us with your stunning conclusion that satellite dish conflicts with your $450K decision...

Of course, your house is worth only $450K mainly because you live in one of the worse cities in the Bay area.

Yeah, you guys definitely lost me. I have no clue why watching soccer and sex are exclusive for you, that you use "sex" as a substitute of not watching the 5th to 15th CL games of a Match Day...

I posted in another forum on big soccer about a month ago that after listening to an interview with the head of Sentanata Sports USA and Australia. he wasked about Sentanta being available on cable across the USA. He mentioned that they are in talks with Verizon FIOS and they are hoping to have Sentanta Sports USA available on FIOS TV in a year. I would really like this to happen soon so I can TIVO some stuff.

any news on this I recently subscribed to verizon fios and all I got is FSC and GOl TV, which is a LOT better than champions league on espn2 as my only footie outlet via the tube, but I desperately want Setanta Sports USA
