Help with resume?

I am planning to apply for a coaching job at my local high school.

The resume is due Monday and I have not seen the job description - if one exists.

I have written lots of resume's but I don't see my soccer experiences fitting well in a traditional resume format.

Any suggestions? What things should I address?

Your experience as a player, and what level you played at.

What coaching license do you have.

How many years you have coached previously, what age groups.

How many championships you have won. I know the real idea is to put out good players. But once they start paying you, you have to show some results. Pass performance gives them a history

I went into the bowels of my word processor and dug out an old resume. Here's what I included on mine.

1. High School coaching experience
2. Club coaching experience
3. Rec coaching experience

It's a good idea to write brief summaries describing your experiences and records.

4. Coaching education, including licenses, membership in professional associations ( ie NSCAA ), and NSCAA convention attendence.
5. Coaching awards
6. Coaching philosophy and personal reasons for coaching ( be brief )
7. Playing experience - and I did not include this on my last resume. They are hiring you to coach.
8. Soccer references. I included current and past coaches and referees.
9. Educational and family information.

You will probably not be asked any questions about soccer. AD's are most interested in how you will run a program, your personal and emotional stability, and how you interact with people. I've held four head coaching jobs and I cannot recall ever being asked a soccer question.

If your resume is thin, or you don't get the job - try to build some experience as an assistant. High School coaching is very different from Rec or Club b/c of the public scrutiny.

This does not surprise me one bit -- and it is the reason that I don't think that HS soccer is a positive soccer experience for many or most kids who are college and, possibly, pro bound.

I'm sorry that you did not have a good high school experience. Perhaps you should start a new thread where we could continue this discussion.
