I made the following post yesterday on the NSR-Movies board and only got one response. Am I the only one who appreciated this?...
I nearly embarrassed myself today as I sat in the movie theater with my 5 year old daughter and 7 year old son watching "Flushed Away". For those of you who haven't seen the animated movie (from the makers of Wallace an Gromit), one of the side storylines include England playing Germany in the World Cup Final. Without giving up the story, I can say that events associated with the game influence the main plot of the movie. England was up 3-1 going into the half and the game commentators were talking about how miraculous it was. After the main storyline unfolded, they flashed a newspaper headline on the screen that read "England Loses on Penalties". I nearly lost it laughing. Unfortuantely, here in southeast Indiana, I think I was the only one in the nearly packed theater to get it. My kids asked me after the movie why that was the only part I laughed at. With a little luck, they'll know the game well enough to understand someday.
