I don't know why but I have a feeling that he may know a little more about the situation then we do.

For those of you that didn't catch today's mess, here's a recap:
-A newspaper (not really sure which one) printed that Nery Castillo would get 600K dollars from the Mexican Federation to play for us. Twisting an old rumor that Castillo wanted money to play for us.
-Jared got heated by Mediotiempo to talk trash about Castillo.
-On Pasion W they look on the rumor and decided to call Castillo directly, but they were only able to reach his dad. Nery Sr. said that neither him or his son had asked for money from the Mexican federation, and said that right now it seems that Nery has chosen Mexico, and if he does play for Mexico he would do it under the same conditions of any other Mexican National Team player. He also said that the only problem he saw is that the Greeks are trying to lure him to their team and that Nery was experiencing some pressure to choose Greece; but still he wanted to play for Mexico.
-Later, also in Pasion W, they reached Hugo who denied any rumors about Mexico offering any money to Castillo and said that if there was someone offering money to Nery was the Greek Federation. Hugo said that in all case if Nery comes, as it looks he will, he would be rejecting the money offered by the Greeks. Hugo went as far as declaring that he alredy sent the official call up to Castillo and Olympiakos demanding the presence of the player for the game of February 7, and that he believes Nery will come.
To me it looks like a rumor created by the media in order to get a little bit more raiting and/or get some readers. Good thing that at the end of the day Hugo took the time to make things clear, he also said that he was gonna defend Nery because he's a potential member of his national team and that he didn't wanted those kind of rumors that generated a bad environment around his team.
EDIT:
Here's more of Hugo clearing up the rumors and saying that he and Nery have agreed on something and that he hopes to no be dissapointed:

On Noticiero Televisa Deportes, Nery Sr. admitted to Javier Alarcon that Nery would be reporting for duty for the first fixture date. The Greek money thing was alluded to, but clearly the Nerys are not interested in the feria. I doubt it, as why would all this shit be made up in the first place. They toyed with the idea of Greece. Dude denied it, acted kind of short but polite and then chuckled, giving in saying something about Alarcon cleverly bringing the truth out of him.
A point was stressed that Nery Jr. would be reporting like any other player:
As a Mexican playing at a high level, deserving of the call-up and ready to integrate himself into the team.
All for one, one for all.
The cool thing I got from this, besides the apparent humility pending his arrival, is that Daddy Nery repeatedly stated they had spoken to someone from our previous coaching staff and how they wish the truth would be revealed as the stance taken then is the stance taken now. Mexico is where Nery's heart is.
Now how much of this I believe is a different story.
But it's pretty damn neat that they'd spin it.
PR moves are good now.

I have? I dont remember that, because honestly, I have only seen short clips of his play, not enough for me to form an opinion.
Maybe is just noise, but I heard some comments on tv of how his call up was already creating controversy at the camp.

He began his career at Olympiakos as a left winger, and he plays more as a striker now. He can do both fairly well.

I have to agree with metalmaster, i have only seen very few clips of this guy...He is good but i still don't get why he is so special...He will have to prove me wrong at the USA if he makes it.

Personally, I beleieve this was a typical yellow journalist who are so prevalent in the Mexican Media testing Hugo to see how far he could push it. Hugo, obviously did not fall into the trap. I am so sick of these "reporters" trying to make themsleves part of the story, or at the very least generating controversy for no reason other than to maybe sell some papers. Remember before the world cup, and some reporter was obviously having an off the record conversation with La Volpe about Kikin (but he was recording it), and then that recording made it onto ESPNDeportes' website, muffled and all? Even La Volpe wasn't stupid enough to launch into a tirade if he knew that the conversation was being recorded for website content. Well, maybe not La Volpe.
But back to Nery -- I am glad that he will be called. He already has some 'splainin to do, so he is going to have to work very hard to earn the trust and respect of his new teammates and coaches.

The media is the root of all evil when it comes to the National Team..
Ill dare to say that if we dont win the next world cup, or the opne in 2014, it would be the medias fault..
We win one game, or tie Argentina, and boom we could win the cup..
We lose, and were the worst team ever, and off the the coaches head..
One of thereasons the kids did so well in the Sub 17 was because they were generally ignored by the media..

I too, think that the media is creating a lot of bs regarding Nery's situation. I hope that he plays for Mexico just so that we have him cap-tied. I don't think that he is our savior or our missing link in the offense, but who knows.
One thing is for sure, though. The FMF or Hugo better not offer him money to join our NT, that would be facked up and an insult to all the other Mexican players.
