Anyone have any idea what this might mean? Not Doug Logan seems to be on the mark pretty often...
Two Words
Saint Louis.
Enough said.

Nothing for sure, but STL has always been thrown out when talking about expansion teams. The city has actually has a pretty good soccer history and would make a great addition to MLS. I could see a great rivalry between Chicago and STL or KC and STL. With the league having an odd number of teams next year, I'm sure they are looking at where they can expand to next. STL seems as logical as many cities. I'm sure some will disagree with that, but I can see STL getting a team sooner rather than later. Time will tell...

Not Doug Logan has inside info like Deep Throat for MLS news.
Garber is going to announce tomorrow that St. Louis will be the 14th MLS team. Either in '07 or '08. It would not be a stretch to expand the expansion draft to include another team.

I started this same thread in News and Analysis. Because Logan's Revenge does have an impressive record when it comes to MLS news.
This seems like a sure reference to expansion in St. Louis. But the two words he used were SAINT LOUIS. Which makes me wonder about a stadium partnership with the University.
My other theory, which is much more of a stretch, is that he is talking about a person. Namely Saint Lewis Wolff. The man that wants to bring the Earthquakes back to San Jose.

I highly doubt it would be for 07 unless they have worked out a temporary arrangement with the Soccer Park or something. People always mention SLU, but that would mean SLU making a huge about face on that issue. Or as one SLU alum explained to me, MLS probably won't play at Hermann because "Father Biondi is a control freak."
I suppose a temporary ground share might happen, but a permanent one will never happen.
And the Wolff thing would be one hell of a twist by Not Doug Logan.

That would be sweet. :D However, it's unlikely for 2007, but definitely likely for 2008.
My guess is that it has something to do with expansion for St. Louis (Saint Louis University?).

No question it's quite a reach. I'm just thinking out loud.

I'm not questioning you at all. The post from Not Doug Logan is cryptic enough to mean a variety of things, and kudos for thinking of that scenario.

I'm pulling for you Goodsie. :) I grew up in San Jose with the original Quakes. But I think the Lew Wolff theory is a bit thin here. Just my wishful thinking.

Thanks for the support. :)
While the San Jose Earthquakes is the front-runner for the 2008 expansion spot (or for one of the 2008 spots if there'll be more than one), even I realize that a Quakes return in 2007 is a stretch at best.

Could KC relocate to STL? The vote for fields failed and perhaps the new owners are moving in a new direction. Just an idea.
not according to the comments from the owners. they said the failed vote doesn't sway their plan for the wizards in kansas city.

I deleted my post almost as soon as I posted it...my memory isn't as quick as my typing. I remembered reading what the owners said about the stadium and attempted to correct my mistake before others noticed. You're just too quick for me.

Interesting idea... however, keep in mind that NDL is in NY. It's possible that he used the full 'Saint' just for emphasis.
Me, I wouldn't have considered that using the full 'Saint' would imply the university. Not sure how many people outside of St. Louis would think of it that way.
It's always possible that NDL is aware of the university spelling and the relevance. General college sports fans might include this in their personal knowledge base (which is why it's not in mine:))
Just pointing out that you have a local reference for the "Saint" reference... and NDL isn't local, so he might not. So you might not want to read too much into that little aspect of the post.

I think it is more likely that he just spelled out the word instead of the usual abbreviation.
Whatever it means, we have less than 40 minutes to find out. The address will be on the leagues website at noon central.

Any chance that there will be an announcement during the MLS Cup telecast this Sunday? Or perhaps when the NCAA Championship is held at SLU next month? And by announcement, something other than the usual "within the next 90 days".

Nothing in the address. But NDL sometimes gets tips that come true long enough later that he has to remind us that he said it first.

I emailed the potential lead investor/operator and the STL Dispatch.
I/O said that it was interesting news, but didn't say anything else
STL Dispatch said that the I/O has a proposal before the state development board which the I/O thought would get approved.
