Why not.
It has a population of 1.5 million. Has 35000 registered players. A great 30K stadium (Which will be hosting U-20 WC games). And with the AAA baseball team moving in 2008, MLS Ottawa would be the only pro game in town during the summer.

OT-TA-WA.The top priority for Ottawa as a sports town is to get a CFL again (sigh), not an MLS team.
It'll probably never happen anyways.
After Montreal and Vancouver I don't see MLS soccer ever being played in Canada, not for a long time anyways.

How was the Ottawa franchise (was there one?) in the ill-fated Canadian league a few years back?

The Sens aren't in amazing shape themselves too.

The sens are fine.. But I think the real problem may lie with the probable idea that Ottawa is too close to Montreal. We know that MLS would like a franchise in Montreal some day so I doubt that they would want the hassle of having territory issues with an Ottawa team from a smaller market..

Actually, the league is not ill-fated; it is doing terrific. I can't quote exact figures but i would guess average attendance is over 25,000 a game league-wide, and TV numbers haven't been as big as they are now in years. The problem with Ottawa consistently was controversial ownership who made ill-advised decisions on a regular basis. Ottawa first lost the CFL in 1996, and again in 2004. Both times with the same ownership. Problem is, the guys with the money in Ottawa never wanted to be owners in the CFL so a feeble minded family from Metro Detroit (The Gleiberman's) "bailed" Ottawa out in 1996, and resurrected the team again in 2002 (I believe?) only to have it fold again quickly. The situation with the Renegades should not be a precursor for Ottawa in MLS. The fact that there are probably 20 markets ahead of Ottawa should be.

Yes.
And if Salt Lake is a good MLS city, so would Ottawa.
If Toronto, the worst market in Canada for pro soccer, is a good market for the MLS, then Ottawa would be gold.
And if Colorado drawing a bunch of 4K crowds this summer isn't a embarrassment to the league, then nothing Ottawa- could do- would top that. The team could draw 2K and we'd tell everyone it was raining and there was no advance advertising for the game.
And if Beckham wants to play in LA... I'm sure former Cameroon Star Roger Milliar would love to play in Ottawa for Ottawa County (more phoney sentimental poo all rolled up in a name). At 55, he'd still have a few "MLS" years left in him.
There would be no downside for MLS to grant Ottawa County membership.
UP WITH THE OC!

I think he was talking about the Canadian soccer league, not CFL.

You're a troll because everyone knows you are - And just today I get a neg rep from you for writing in a NY forum what I think the name should be of a second NY team if we get one! - I've never conversed with this guy before. My whole post was "Empire FC New York" - No joke - This guy hates anything that doesn't involve Ottawa or Montreal getting a team - He lives in the Toronto FC forum hating on them for getting a team, telling them how much they will fail. Yes my friend, you are a TROLL. The sad thing is I always thought this was a kid from his immaturity, but looking at his profile, it says he's 39!! - I hope for your sake that's not true. Get over it - You will NEVER have a team!

Possibly the greatest and only amazing suggestion you've ever made in my eyes Gman.... you score a +5!
Count me in! Intrepid 2.0......!!!! Where can i get my season's tix?
maybe in the fantastical 32team league idea ;) or a area billionaire suddenly ups for it... i don't see either possible :P but one can dream... there needs to be some serious changes in our soccer system.. Edmonton, Calgary, Winnipeg, Ottawa, QC, no pro soccer clubs.. horrid.

you got a neg from me cause you gave me one first for no reason.
At least I'm not dreaming about a second team in a market that simply doesn't care about MLS soccer. What was that play-off crowd again? Sorry..had you booked Shakira, the crowd would have been in 30K range.
Empire FC?? I'm sad? Jesus. Why not just call them the Orange Crush Queens or Coca Cola Zero Bronx
This is a thread about the MLS in Ottawa. Time to get back to it...
Hate me cause I'm dreaming about a team in the GREATEST market outside of Salt Lake city.
OTTAWA.
OTTAWA CITY. 2010 MLS Champs. Maybe expansion is a Pipe Dream. So I'll sit back and wait till TFC moves in 2-3 years.
Anyone remember the Vancouver Grizzlies?
And I love TFC. I'm a member of the TorontoStalinists...
