Pre game show, Half time show

ESPN Vs BBC

Tomy, Julie Vs Gary Lineker, Alan Hansen, Alan Shearer, Marcel Desailly, Martin O'Neill and Gordon Strachan.

Tommy is so annoying. I feel bad for Julie and Andr Gray.

Julie might not be annoying, but she doesn't know much.

I only feel bad for Andy Gray :D

Who is Judy? Are you all talking about Julie Foudy?

She is kind of cute so I guess she makes up for whatever it is she doesn't have.....

Agreed, she has really gotten lax in her analysis and preparation

I've always felt the way her eyes look and that lazy smile she has makes her look stoned.

Except that she's an idiot.
Completely, utterly, uninteresting.

No more so than foudy...

Heather probably knows the game equally as well, and is nicer to look at....

Therefore better.

I wouldn't mind playing Keeper with both of them! ;)

With Turkey-Czech Rep being the decisive game of Group A on Sunday and Portugal-Switzerland being a meaningless game, here's hoping ESPN will switch the two games between ESPN Classic and ESPN2. (The current schedule has Turkey-Czech Rep on ESPN Classic ad Portugal-Switzerland on ESPN2).

Anyone knows the chances of this happening?

Emails saying you don't get ESPNC and have no plans on watching Port v Switz if thats on ESPN2 may work.

Ummm....no.
I've worked with both of them and there's no comparison.
Heather is cute, but she's not sharp at all and needs to be heavily produced to get through a segment.
Stop letting your little head think for your big one.

Again, Foudy's strength is her experience.
Just because she's not pushy about showing off how much she knows doesn't mean she's dumb.
Plus she's an established star of the women's game who actual has a World Cup ring and several years of experience at the international level.
How many does Heather have?
How many caps?

I think the reason most guys here don't like her is because they've been conditioned to think that women sportscasters have to be these brassy, hot pieces of ass who are smarmy and smirky and subservient to the guys.
Because Julie's not young, blonde, and a bimbo most of the people here don't like her.
After all, why else would you want Heather Mitts because she certainly doesn't know more about the game than Julie?

Personally I don't watch soccer for tits and a$$ so I don't want that kind of person anywhere near a broadcast.

Is it just me, or is Tommy Smyth the Irish version of Ernst Stavro Blofeld? Thank the Flying Spaghetti Monster for Andy Gray. He's informative and entertaining. Foudy grates on me, but so be it. At least I'm not blowing $20 for a cover charge for this tournament.

I know people were asking about this earlier, and the AP has just come out with an article that includes the viewership numbers for the first six games of Euro 2008 in America. Here they are in the order they were played:

Switzerland v Czech Republic- 169,000
Portugal v Turkey- 291,000
Austria v Croatia- 445,000
Germany v Poland- 683,000
France v Romania- 393,000
Netherlands v Italy- 553,000

The average of the six broadcasts is 422,000 viewers a match.

It all depends on if ESPN has something else they want to broadcast, like the MLB draft.

Yeah, I don't really understand the groundswell of support for Heather Mitts over Julie Foudy.

Mitts is a little easier on the eyes, but her work as a sideline reporter at MLS games a couple of years ago made me appreciate Foudy a little bit more. Mitts' stuff struck me as being a bit more pre-packaged and stiffer, while I think that Foudy has a much more natural on-camera presence once the red light comes on, so if I gotta choose who'd be better in a studio show, I'd go with Foudy over Mitts in a second. (That said, I'd still rather have Eric Wynalda than Foudy.)

And it's really got nothing to do with intelligence or knowledge or anything like that. Some people just have an easier time in broadcasting than others. Joe Montana is an intelligent guy and the greatest quarterback of all time, but he was a flop as a broadcaster. (But his successor at the 49ers, Steve Young, has become one of the best football commentators on TV.)

Yeah, that's why I have a hard time ripping ESPN's coverage. Four years ago, Setanta charged $150-200 (I can't remember how much exactly) for a poor retransmission of someone else's SD broadcast.

Meanwhile, this year, ESPN is broadcasting all but a few games in HD, including a studio show between games in HD, and a half-hour highlight show each night... for nothing above what we're already paying. And in exchange, I might have to put up with an ESPN doofus in the studio. Big deal.

And if nothing else, people are finally realizing at long last that Mr. Onion Bag is an idiot.

It really shouldn't matter as all we would be asking is to switch the ESPN2 game to ESPNC and vice versa while still allowing everyone else to wacth the best of mike and mike on ESPN.

The problem is that if ESPN has something it thinks will get better ratings at 2:30 or whenever the game is, it will not switch the game from ESPN Classic. Personally it doesn't bother me, because I will watch it on 360.
