Jonathan is 0ne of the 40 nominated young players for the Golden Boy Award.
The award is organized by the Italian newspaper Tuttosport and the nominations are an international panel of soccer journalists, among others are the Voetbal International journalists.
For this years election only players are considered who are born after januari the first 1986, are under contract with a club competing at the highest level and will be judged only on their achievements of calendar year 2006.
I have to correct the number of nominees, it is 40 instead of the 50 I mentioned.
The prize exists since 2003 and the former winners are:

2003: Rafael van der Vaart (Dutch)
2004: Wayne Rooney (English)
2005: Lionel Messi (Argentine)

A whopping number of 5 players from the Dutch league are nominated and one Dutch player abroad.

He played like a superstar the last two matches. Voetbal International awarded him with a 9 (five stars in the regular list) for his performance against FC Twente and with four stars against Roda JC.

A. You're an idiot
B. JDG2 has not commited internationaly to any of the 3 countries he is eligible for and has not yet received Dutch citizenship (which would put it at 4).
C. See A.

No your the idiot, he's turned down all the offers to play for Canada along side his brother? He won't be in uniform for Canada in the under 20 World Cup to be played here next summer. His Dad is angry with the CSA about the way they handled an injury his brother got playin for Canada at the age of 15 or 16. His Dad has stated publicaly that he wants Jonathan to play for Holland because of the prospect of huge sponsorship deals with Nike. He'll turn his back on his country just like Owen did.

Ed, he's saying he turned down the chance to play alongside his brother.

Anyways, he hasn't commited EITHER WAY as of now. Do your parents make your decisions for you? I'd say his older brother probably has more of a say, especially when we know how close they are.

Here's to JDGx2 in 2008!
