Notice that they've gotten rid of the score bar from across the top of the whole screen. And that would include the silly drop-down scores, stats and subs that would take up viewing space during the run of play?
Perhaps they've heard our complaints.
On the other hand, they are still running scores of all the games in the ticker, including the one on ESPN Classic later in the day...
Thx,
Jay!

It'll never change. It's that hard to fix a ticker?

During the Arsenal match, the ticker was much more up-to-date than usual.

The score bar at the top never bothered me actually.
The ticker though is absolutely infuriating.

didn't the bar at the top also showed spoilers? A drop-down box would show up updating the socres of the other games.

I don't know that the bar at the top ever spoiled the "protected" game, but I could be wrong on that one.
In any event, the bar is done by ESPN2, so they choose which scores to show, just like on the ticker.

that's right. My mistake. The Classic game is spoiled on the dreadful ticker.

ESPN 2 with the Bar, the Ticker and the Pop-Up-From-The-Bottom-Lineups during the World Cup, during the run of play... Just awful. A couple of goals were ruined.
And drop-downs from the Bar were definitely in the way of crosses that resulted in scores in the WC.
The ticker is easily covered. Everyone has a scarf at home. Just wrap it around the TV.
Another thing about the Bar, it doesn't go all the way to the top. At the very top, they put the name of the event you are watching. So you see the field/space between the Bar and the top of your screen. Having seen a few in HDTV, it's even worse there.
IMHO.
Thx,
Jay!

Yet all games had at least 5 minutes of pregame coverage. USA games (and other games) had a full 30 minutes pregame. And they didn't elect to announce lineups then.

Yep, it's actually WORSE than what it seems, because they push the "top bar" further down than necessary. If you're a soccer fan, you know what you're watching. And if you're a casual viewer, then isn't that why we have channel guides?

i didn't se any goals ruined by having a bar at the top and bottom of the screen. besides, they always show 10 replays of every goal, so even if something was missed you'd see it again 4 seconds later. But nothing was blocked by the score bar at the top or bottom. the action was kept in the center of the screen in the action-safe area.
MLS ESPN games still have the score bar. i think the reason the bar was not used on the champions league games this past week was because they were using the ESPN international feeds for the games, which come with the regular ESPN graphics which would have clashed with the score bar due to different sizes.

There were several instances during the WC where substitution or factoid drop-downs from the top bar were over top of a player running with the ball and attempting a pass. Or getting tackled. Same with the big "what's coming up at half-time panel" that complete obscured a penalty and it's replay.
