"There's a couple [of players] around the league who we'll have to reconsider that have been on our radar before," he said. "We're just decimated in the back. We may have to sacrifice one of the jewels [United's young attacking players in a trade]. We're not going to get anything for nothing."

Plus...

-Hristo decision tomorrow.
-Third Keeper.
-Barclay joins the walking wounded.

Here's the bio of the GK mentioned at the end of the story. Note that Dave Kaspar used to coach at Duquesne and I wouldn't be surprised if there is a connection.

Come back, Rick Guter. All is forgiven.

Given all the injuries, Ray should have no problem finding Q2 a starting spot.

Olsen at back perhaps?

"Bryan Namoff, a reserve midfielder and defender, likely will start in Reyes's place Saturday, but Hudson said the team will pursue a trade.

It is that quote that concerns me.......who for what????

Eskandarian for Gbandi or Broome would probably get the deal done with Dallas.

Yeah, I agree. There aren't many spots left. Maybe:
Convey, Etcheverry, Kovalenko, Olsen, Quintinilla in midfield

Quaranta & Stewart up top?

Sure Gbandi was a #1 pick like Eskandarian, but like Esky he hasn't proven himself. Only thing he has done is get a major injury. Gbandi is as proven as Stokes and Carroll. I wouldn't do that trade.

According to a report from a Dallas fan, Gbandi didn't look too good in the pre-season game against KC on Saturday.

And Esky can't play his way onto the field behind Santino, whom pretty much everyone here has said is really sucking this preseason.

They are both unproven. DC gets an unproven but potentially talented defender, Dallas gets an unproven but potentially talented forward.

If you want to deal in "proven" commodities, I"m sure Jeffries would trade you Tenwaya 'stud' Bonseu for one Earnest Stewart.

Or you could do everyone a favor and trade Bobby Convey to NE for Rusty Pierce or Daouda Kante so that he can play in the center of field, where he belongs.

Olsen seemed to me to do something of the sort in the game vs. Richmond,at least in the first half. Not a good result.

Enough with the shaft DC United society. Here are some trade possibilities. Now some of these players would be easier to obtain than others.
Some are less inviting than others as well. Also the talk of Convey and Olsen can be tabled IMHO
unless we are talking about Bocanegra, CJ Brown or Garcia caliber player. Even then I don't know
if that would be a fair deal, one way or the other.

I also think it would depend on how well Ivanov, and Prideaux are coming along. If United needs to suck it up and play with a back line of:

Namoff - Nelson - Stokes - Petke

for a week or two until one of the other two guys come back, I don't think all is lost. Since a regular back line of:

Petke - Ivanov - Nelson - Prideaux

with Namoff as a reserve isn't too shabby. Not too deep, but not horrendous. Maybe a pick up of Denton would re-fill the depth here.

Eliseo Quintanilla The objective is to acquire a good player. If this is all we're offering, we're not gonna get much back in return that's gonna help.

The days of us fleecing Lassiter off the Mutes or us getting fleeced by the Mutes for Diaz Arce are over. To get quality, we're gonna have to give quality and the above list ain't gonna get us much.

Quality for quality? How about Bobby for Mastroeni, straight-up...(not that either team would ever do that).

So then who do you add to the list??? I have already covered my thoughts on Convey and Olsen.

Who would you be thinking about based on Ray's quote????

While he's gotten solid reviews in pre-season, might we consider trading Kovalenko to acquire a quality D-Mid or attacking outside back?

We'd be swapping proven offense for proven defense. How about Leo Cullen? NE could certainly use an offensive minded central mid.

Would Chicago take Kovalenko back in exchange for Jesse Marsch?

I think with Tino's poor showing in pre-season, he would be on the block.

I know there are family considerations with keeping him close to home, but...

The only players we have extra that are of value are Tino, Esky or Q2.

To extend shawn's list further, I'd might add Tino and Alecko to the list. But that would raise the level of the player in return.

I'd look to Columbus, which is deep on defense, even if the real talent stops with Hejduk/Dunseth. We won't get Dunseth, who is playing for the Nats. But both Eric Denton and Duncan Oughton were on the bench Saturday. Can anyone find a better #6 defender than Oughton, who I'd say is better than Namoff? We could probably get him for a draft pick and a Chino (who, by the way, played like shite Saturday. Terrible touches and bad passes. Q2 looked much better; I can't understand how so many people are projecting Chino to start against Kansas).
