View Full Version : An Idea: Player Grades For Post Match Threads

I have an idea for our post-match threads and for the forum in general. I think it would be interesting if everyone who's interested gave grades to the players in the post-match thread. We could then take the average of everyone and come up with our collective grade for each player for that game. We could also keep track of them over the course of the season to find out who we really think has performed the best (and worst).
I volunteer to run this project. I will wait until 48 hours after the match has completed and then calculate the vote totals. Grades should be on a scale of 1 to 10 (1 is worst, 10 is best). I'll then post the grade averages in the post-match thread and in this thread as well as the season average.
So...unless anyone has objections I'll start doing this after the Kansas game. Suggestions appreciated.

Make sure you take grades from the same observers for every match. That way there's not as much variation.

I was planning on rating players, so I'm all for it.

Sounds good.

I think a lot of people grade the players anyway. I'm not against the idea, but if you're not going to use the same people every week, I don't see what it really adds.

Just don't allow sormun to grade the players, otherwise we'll have to use the old Bell Curve.. :p

I like this idea. But let's not go around throwing 7s, 8s and 9s (and 10s gosh forbid) too liberally.
Maybe toss out the highest and lowes for each?

I want to grade on a scale of 1-6, with 1 being the best and 6 being the worst, like Kicker Magazine does. And if I want to give someone a partial rating, like a 3 point 5, I'll use this notation:
3,5
instead of this one:
3.5
It'll feel more Eurosnobbish to me. :)
OK, I'm kidding. I'll follow the same rating system as everyone else.

Or we could do like figure skating and have 12 judges but only count 8 of the scores and no one except the boss knows which scores will count!! :D

I would like to suggest we boycott all things french, why don't we call them freedom judges instead.

Am I insane or don't we already grade players? Granted, no one actually collects the information and it varies wildly from week to week. See, some grade on an average of 6 or 7 on a 10 point scale and others grade on a 5 average on the same scale.
Have fun if you want to collect and keep track of the scores. More power too you! I'll make sure to grade players this season (of course switching my average grade each week just for fun :D ). And all my grades will be in FRENCH, GERMAN, or RUSSIAN!
BTW - if you are going to grade players please keep it confined to the Official Post Match Thread! Otherwise, you will incur the wrath of Revelation for creating duplicate threads! (No, I'm not kidding!)

We had player ratings in the post-game threads last year so we don't need another post-game thread for player ratings
This could also be set up in someone's personal forum to avoid duplication on this one.

That's not needed. This is perfectly on topic in the post match threads. As was said before, it already takes place there anyway on an informal basis.

About this ... we'll just merge duplicate threads as we always so.

So, as far a Petke is concerned, what's the numerical equivalent of wanker?
