Queiroz was apparently unconvinced that McShane was good enough to have a first-team future at the club. McShane believes there were other factors involved as well.
“I definitely made the right decision to leave because I’d seen players waste away before my own eyes. For years they had held on in the reserves, playing there until they are 23 or 24. They get into a comfort zone and they are getting paid decent wages. Maybe getting a substitute’s appearance in some not-so-important first-team game. Just enjoying the tag of being a United player. I thought, ‘That’s not going to be me.’ ”
