Does United have an Inferiority Complex?

Gary Neville was on Press Pass saying that United is just trying to not fall as far behind Chelsea as the last two years and that if they can do this then maybe we can make a run at the title. This seems a little much when we are currently tied with chelsea in points and ahead in the table on Goal Difference. Can't we just dominate the rest of the year to win it? Why does he sound like it would just be luck if we won? I think we're admiring Chelsea too much. If our players are all drooling over there players, how are we going to beat them? Luckily some players, like C. Ronaldo and Rooney, have come out and said, "we are just as good as chelsea and will make a run at the prem". I'd much rather hear this then all this stuff about how great chelsea are.

Sir Alex Ferguson wont allow that to happen to his team.

Ridiculous statement. It's not saying United are inferior to Chelsea. It's just acknowledging that United are usually slow starters in the league while Chelsea have started strongly in recent seasons. We've been leaving ourselves too much of a gap to make up.
No way does this club have an inferiority complex. The opposite in fact. United know they are the best. That's why United fans have not been crowing about the Liverpool and Bolton results the way certain other clubs might.

Agree with alot of that. Some of our titles in the Fergie era have come with us leading all the way but others have certainly come on the back of us putting together a great run after Christmas.

To me, all he's saying there is that because of the consistency of Chelsea it is no longer good enough to be "in touch" and perhaps a few points off the pace come the turn of the year as it's much more difficult to make up ground against them, mainly because of the depth of squad they have that other teams just simply haven't had in the past.

A few years ago I read somewhere that through training routines etc. Fergie would prepare the team to hit peak form in the second half of the season when others might be struggling with injuries or suspensions which is something I think we can no longer afford to do as we might just be too far behind.

There seems to be a willingness to field our strongest side more this term despite it being relatively early especially against the "weaker" teams. In the past couple of years that kind of thing has cost us at times whereas prior to that we'd often get away with dropping the odd couple of points here and there on our travels.

Neville just seems to be re-iterating the type of battle-cry and enforcing the need to stay focused on every single game that Paul Scholes and Ryan Giggs were talking about over the summer in the following two articles.
