According to Skysports.com (http://home.skysports.com/list.aspx?hlid=439732&CPID=22&clid=171&lid=9&title=Werder+eye+Twente+ace), Bremen is trying to sign Peter Niemeyer. Hopefully he can kick start his career at Bremen.

Kickstart his career? He already had a pretty good career with the only club in Holland that's beaten PSV this season, the no. 5 in the Dutch league. Over a hundred Dutch eredivisie league games under his belt!
Anyway it's official, Twente officially announced Niemeyer's joining Bremen at the end of the season. He's quoted as saying he's leaving 'with a tear in his eye' as he's played for us since he was 14 years old.
Good luck Peter, it's been a pleasure to watch you play for us.

How would you describe his strengths and weaknesses? Will he be good enough to really strengthen Werder's squad?

I don't know how he'll take to German football (which is ironic seeing that he's German!), just that he was literally brought up in Dutch football and that's the style he's used to. That said, he was a regular starter in the Germany under 21s so he might be all right.
Niemeyer can be used either as a defensive midfielder or as an attacking defender, I like him best in the latter, the so-called libero role. He's very strong on the ball, good pass, leadership qualities, and above all: extremely reliable.
Like I said, I don't know how he'll do. Another German talent who was developed by the Twente youth academy, Simon Cziommer, couldn't hack it in the Bundesliga (with Schalke) but now again is a much respected player in the Dutch league (with AZ). I just hope Bremen will give him a chance, it would be a shame if he ended up on the bench.

Don't worry, Bremen is the last club to waste talent, just look at Naldo and Micoud.

@johan neeskens
Thank you very much for the infos! :)
But I do think, that he will sit on the bench at first. He will take the role of Leon Andreasen as a backup with perspective for the first eleven.

So he's not the midfielder that signed with ManUtd a few years back?
Anyways, good luck to him. There is no place better to go for player than Bremen at the moment, that's for sure.

There are many examples of promising players that didn't make it.
But Niemeyer is solid, I think he'll be the long-term successor to Baumann.

The only professional club he's ever played for is Twente, he joined our youth development programme when he was 14 I think.
Like I said, I hope he does well for you and wish him all the best.

There are rumors in Germany that Werder Bremen wants sign John Carew from Lyon during the winterbreak. Manager Klaus Allofs already announced that he is an option Werder is thinking of. What do you think?
So he's not the midfielder that signed with ManUtd a few years back?
Markus Neumayr (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Markus_Neumayr) is with MSV Duisburg (2. Bundesliga) now.
