Joseph's suspension lights a fire under the Revs
By Ives Galarcep, Soccernet.com, October 30, 2006

"...This brings us to what has to be considered the most unsettling aspect of this contentious series, Joseph's suspension. According to a number of sources, Chicago head coach Dave Sarachan lobbied hard for Joseph to be suspended for an inadvertent elbow on Guerrero in Game 1 of the series. Guerrero followed suit by telling the Chicago media that Joseph deserved to be suspended...

WOW---Great that Ivan is willing to call out a coach for what he feels and truly was a low life, unsportsmenly decision. Hey Dave---UP YOURS :D

What about this that Galarcep wrote...So here is a question: Was it really worth it for Chicago to lobby for Joseph's suspension? Obviously the Revs are better with Joseph than without him, but New England finished unbeaten without Joseph at the end of the season while he recovered from hand surgery, so it wasn't as if the team was going to be lost without him. If the lobbying did anything, it provided motivation for a team that didn't need it. You also have to ask exactly how sporting or even ethical it is to have a coach lobby for the suspension of an opposing player, assuming Sarachan actually did lobby. Sounds like something you'd read on this board!

While everyone else was raging and crying, I saw the gift.

Thank you Dave Sarachan, Ivan Gazidis and the entire Disciplinary Committee. You have ensured New England will take home the MLS Cup.

I think that the biggest gift we got from Sarachan was his decision to take his foot of the gas when they scored in Chicago and protect their one goal "win" instead of pressing their advantage and putting us in a deeper hole. His second biggest gift was waiting so long to put Mapp out wide on Khano's side to exploit Khano's lack of defense, and then take Mapp out not long after. This would be no higher than third.

The quote I liked was this one:

"New England surrendered the first goal in its second game against Chicago, putting itself in a 2-0 overall hole, but that deficit seemed to awaken Revs standouts Matt Reis, Taylor Twellman and Pat Noonan, who weren't going to let overzealous league officials or a dishonorable opponent steal the series away from them. "

A 'dishonorable opponent'....wowie zowie....bet Sarachan doesn't return any of Ives calls for awhile.

P.S. I just posted the link to Ives article on the Fire boards under the 'Joseph Suspended' thread.

It would be wise to visit but not post on the Fire(less) Smackfest Board right now. They are being real abusive and I'm sure will hand out lots of Negative Rep for any posts , no matter how reasonable. They are insulting visiting posters mothers etc etc. They are being as low life as their coach. :D

I really shouldn't have, but I had to go over and take a look (not post) and I must say they do make some good points over there. Among the most Insightful was "Your mother's a Whore". Oh man...I feel like its October 17, 2003 all over again (October 20, 2004 for all you Red Sox fans out there).

If you opened your mouth the day after the '03 game 7, you are the worst kind of yankees fan and deserved whatever retaliation, both verbal and physical, that was administered in your direction.

HAHA All I said that Friday was told my boss that I was leaving early to go to the WS (which I really was!). But I did was get up early to watch all the news programs and I listened to the Radio instead of CDs so I could hear everyone just wallow.
