Matches against Bolton are always a bit tricky for us. Could be even tougher this year with Bolton in third currently and fighting for a European spot. But Bolton haven't beaten us at home in the league since 1978, oddly enough.
Looking at Ronaldo making a return to the squad this weekend, and Heinze and Smith could play some role as well. Other than that, we'll probably stick with things as usual, Rooney and Saha are what I'd expect in front.

I think we can take this game 2-0. Our defence are pretty solid at the moment, and I think upfront we are just to strong for them. Hopefully Rooney can get on the scoresheet, whilst at the same time getting rid of some of his critics at this present time. I'd like to see:
------------VDS-------------
G.Nev----Rio------Vida---Evra
Ronnie(if fit)---Scholes---Carrick---Giggs
-------------Roo------Saha----
If Ronaldo ain't fit maybe a start for Ole or Fletcher, he was decent against Liverpool, but then again Liverpool played so shite last week, Bolton will be a bigger test. 2-0 Utd, c'mon.

I won't pretend I'm not most concerned about this game. It's our first game against a top team in form and the first game I've felt we could lose before a ball has been kicked.
Heinze is not fit enough for this and Evra's height may be a massive problem as well as our unsteadyness on crosses and high balls.
Big Sam will target every single weakness we have... Rio is in for a tough game up against Davies. I don't think Anelka will start this as that would compromise a 4-5-1, which I think they will play. If he does start Anelka then Davies will play right behind him and probably split off to take on Rio whilst the pacey striker goes up against Vidic. It's going to be a very hard game and I have to admit, I think we'll have a rough one in midfield. The good news is Nolan is suspended for this so that's going to factor in.
I will be very impressed if we go there and trounce them - most impressed I'll have been with any victory this season actually.
I wonder if Fergie will have the balls to play an uber offensive midfield away from home with Carrick-Scholes at CM and Giggs-Ronaldo out wide.
Big game this. Biggg game.

Edit - NVM.
Ronaldo should play, seriously how long does it take to recover from a flu ?

I'm more confident about this game than I was going into the Liverpool game but I'll echo DS's worry about Evra. I was really hoping Heinze would come in to better handle Davies. He does not look match fit though.
We might be better to stick with Fletcher on the right instead of Ronaldo just to give us a better tackler on the pitch.
This week I watched the highlights of the same fixture last season and it was a great game. United created a lot of chances but had to win the physical battles first. Vidic wrestling with Davies for the ball was fantastic.

Isn't he suspended? Or was that Nolan?
This just in. It was Nolan.

Me thinks Fergie will go with Carrick/Scholes in midfield and if Ronaldo is fit, he'll start as well. It will suck that Fletcher is benched but he can perhaps play a role off the bench.
The absence of Kevin Nolan will be key for us. We most likely wont dominate midfield physically - but even if we played our hardest CMs we currently have, we wouldn't so I think finesse/attack is the way to go.
Rooney having a game like he's capable of could win us the game, otherwise we may need Saha to actually finish his chances.
We can't continually depend on hero games from Giggs and Ronaldo.
I've got a sneaking suspicion that Bolton's style may play into Carrick's hands. Yes, he likes a bit of time on the ball but they've only got to attempt to press and fail to win the ball once when he's got it (leaving spaces behind them), for a goal scoring opportunity to be created.
This could go either way though and I think our defence will be breached.
Really tough to call this one but I'll wager than multiple goals for both teams.

Every year people get worried about this game, and we always come out with a W. Not worried we seem to have Bolton's number pretty well 3-1 to us.

I think it will be the hardest test since the arsenal and reading game and we cannot afford to let chelsea get a gap on us so it is vital to win. It will be a tough match as bolton are very tough in all parts of the game but ronaldo should play him and rooney will be 2 hot to handle 2-0 to us come on united

I'm scared for this one.
though very happy that Nolan's not playing this one. i do expect a carrick, scholes, ronaldo and giggs midfield just because their midfielders are slower than ours

Well, that's true. In our last seven Premiership meetings we've won five times and drawn twice (thanks to red11.org - great site, btw) . So we do have a good record against them in recent seasons. But we can't always look at recent meetings between clubs - we hadn't lost to Liverpool in the FA Cup for decades before last season. Bolton are looking pretty strong lately and will definitely be stronger than Liverpool were last weekend. I hope Bolton give us a tough time, and that we raise our game a bar to win.

So Nolan is out, and Davies is playing?
I am expecting trouble from Diouf and a possible suprise from Vaz Te.

I think with Nolan out, Carick and Scholes can handle their midfield. They just need to close on Campo so he can't take any of those 25 to 30 yard screamers.

I dont think that there is a threat wide to bother Evra as far as height is concerned. Vaz Te is unlikely to start, even so, for them he plays on the left. Evra would be up against Doiuf.
Campo is a very underrated player. As old as he is, still a fantastic midfield organizer.

"Ronaldo is back. Everyone is fit [apart from Ji-sung Park], but none of the players who played on Wednesday at Crewe will play. I'll be relying on the ones who played last Sunday against Liverpool - Fergie
Keep the same team as liverpool and bring on ronaldo for the last 30mins

I have to absolutely agree with you, I think if there will be a threat and player we have to be cautious with then its Campo! I have always liked the way he played.
I think we can win this one, I predict a 2-1 game:Rooney and Giggs will score for us and Diouf for them.
