I went voting today and ther it was. Her name. Unoppossed . I remember all the anger from the name change fiasco and I still voted for her.

Why? you may ask.

Because during the summer I went to the public pool by my house and there was noone there. the lifeguard told me that not that many people go the the pool and the city threaten to close it but Sylvia Garcia step up and kept it open. Now I have and almost private pool.
About 4 weeks ago I went to Mason Park and the soccer fields where close for improvements. Whose name was on the board? Yup. Sylvia Garcia.

So this morning I thought of that and ralize that her decision to fight to chnge the name of name was just misguided and not a public stunt. I swallowed my pride and voted for her.

Sorry guys.

Yup. I will vote for her too. In spite of my personal dislike for her past with the Dynamo er..uh..(1836), I still think she has Houston's best interest in mind. I am not endorsing her by any means, but she has made a difference occupying the position . The Bubba's before her wouldn't even bother with us or the Dynamo, unless he could have made a little money off of it.

Sorry guys.

Then why did she avoid the Texian Army and all our genuine efforts to contact her and her staff to help resolve the issue before it got blown way out of hand?

Why did she not seek out those that loved the 1836 name and ask if there can at the very least be a compromise?

What kind of message is now sent to the youth of Texas...Santo you bring up the power of the vote in our democratic society, so now what thanks to her.....basically if you don't take the time to vote and then are upset at the results...well just bitch and moan enough and you can get your way. Thanks Sylvia for teaching that line of thought to future Texas children. Way to take a big stanley steamer on the good ol' time honored voting process in our nation.

Why does a woman with zero knowledge of soccer take so much tax payer's time and money to raise such a shit storm when there are MASSIVE problems facing inner city Latinos like high school dropout rates, gang killings, lobos and the mojadoss struggle for a better life, education, learning English for jobs and teenage pregnancy??? I as a white man have for years taken my time to help educate, train and encourage young Latinos for a better future. It was futbol that gave us the opportunity to learn and develope lasting bonds. I value very much anyone willing to volunteer to help those that are TRUELY OFFENDED on a daily basis by hunger, fear and hopelessness. Does Sylvia accomplish this by "bravely" standing up to the evil Mexican baby killing 1836 gunmen and our plans for degrading the Latino people every Houston home game?!?
To this day I have Mexicans (I say Mexicans cuz Sylvia never coughed up that El Salvadorenyos, Colombians and 99% other Latinos could give a rat's ass about Santa Anna's loss in 1836) come up to me with a stink in their nose about 1836 when I wear my t-shirt. Do they know in 1836 Tejas had Spanish, not English, as a National language??? Do they know that the origianl State flag and thus Alamo Flag is the green, white, red tricolor??? Do they know that Latinos are taking a giant crap on famous Texas Latinos with all this name change process???

Thanks to the fine efforts of Sylvia Garcia and tax payers dollars the public was lied to and the facts that highlight Tejas' rich heritage and culture were burried for no one to find.

Simply put amigos mios, if you think all this was not an act of self glorification by a typical politician than I don't know what to tell you.

This reminds me of an email exchange some friends of mine had recently. Someone wrote that people should boycott Citgo because it is a subsidiary (http://www.citgo.com/AboutCITGO.jsp) of the national oil company of Venezuela, who isn't on the best of terms with the US Government. Another friend mentioned that Citgo is "the single largest corporate contributor to the Muscular Dystrophy Association-- during their 21 year relationship with them, they have contributed more than $83 million."

Bill Gates has his foundation that funds all kinds of medical research. He also runs Microsoft, which has been convicted of monopolistic and predatory business practices. Rockwell did similar good things even though Standard Oil had a lock on the oil industry.

During my tenure working for Shell, they paid for all of my MBA and a good portion of my Bachelor's Degree, but I refuse to buy gas from their because they outsourced thousands of jobs, including my own, to India.

I believe that anyone (even Sylvia Garcia) has the capability of doing good things. It is left as an excercise to the individual as to whether the wrong actions outweigh the good things that a company or individual has done.

I'm not going to tell people how to vote (not a celebrity ;) ). IMHO her being a hypocrite with regard to Texas history is my personal reason for not voting for her. If she is on my ballot, I will skip her name or do a writein for "Eighteen ThirtySix" as my own personal form of protest.

As I said:
Misguided. Either by her Maternalistic impulse of self proclaming savior of the browns or political favors. Maybe just by plain ignorance but misguided. When it come to politics I weigh the good and the bad and vote. I think that Oliver Luck was as much as fault for the name change as she was. Where are the Huevos? You do not see the Washington Redskins changing their name.
I beleive in history and I understand how symbolic and important the name 1836 was but I also understand that she is taking care of those who she wants to represent. Eventhoug sometimes that representation brings out her own stupidity.

From Sylvia's Website:

"Since the dawning days of the Republic of Texas, Harris County Precinct Two has been at the heart of what it means to be a Texan. It was here that Sam Houston spurred Texas to victory at the Battle of San Jacinto."

She's taking pride in the victory of San Jacinto?? Lets take pride in the battle on the campaign website, but not let a sports team nickname honor that history.... good plan!

Like I said, look up the word "hypocrite" in the dictionary and you'll find her picture there.
