The article says Kitson has one more set of injections, and if he doesn't respond, he'll need surgery. It that's the case, he could be out for the rest of the season.

That means Doyle, Lita and Long are it.
That just is not enough. We need a kitson replacement. Any ideas?
Man, this just reeks. Kitson, one game, one goal. Nice prem average, but I'd much rather see him with 9 in 24.

Horrible news about Kitson. I don't really have a particular striker in mind, but absolutely another one will be needed, at least for the second half of the season. Any idea of one we could get on loan maybe? To buy one would be preferred, of course, but I don't know how much we'd be able to spend with another player needed in the midfield as well, and they're still after Mensah too.

Once Dean Ashton comes back, you might be able to snatch one from West Ham.
Garry O'Connor, 23 year old from Scotland and NT player, is wanting out of Lokomotiv Moscow.
Where else does Reading need to improve? Being American, I think that a new keeper would be good. Hahnemann is rubbish.

Thats a low blow my friend. :) I think you would find that the majority of Reading supporters are more than happy with his performance over the past few years.
The one thing he could improve on is his clearances and passing which truly are rubbish some of the time.

I understand the appreciation for Marcus' previous accomplishments at Reading, but from my limited viewings he doesn't appear to be Premiership quality...

Well, we just sent his backup out on a three month loan (stack) meaning he's being counted on fairly heavily. So, if Marcus goes down v port, who is in goal? Federici? Or is he also out on loan?

We just recalled Federici back from Bristol. Marcus has been struggling a bit, esp. compared to his last couple of seasons, but I can't even think about him getting injured.

Not that i believe Stack would make us all forget marcus, but starting federici would make me very nervous. Anyone see him play on loan? Is there great hope?

Can't we call in loans if a player is injured. I thought that was usually written into the agreement, but I suppose it depends on what the agreement was.

I heard MLS is going to allow both Dempsey and Twellman to go to Europe..possibly in time for the January transfer window. I love Dempsey and his ability to create opportunities...don't really know how he would fit with Reading since we have Seol already out there on the wing. You could make either Seol or Duece play up top but I haven't seen enough of that to say whether that is wishful thinking or something beneficial.
As far as Taylor Twellman, from a hustle standpoint, he fits in well with Coppell's crew. He comes back and plays defense and plays with a motor that goes 100 mph all game long. However, he's either hot or cold and I do not know if he has the talent level to make it in the Premiership. But, he might be a pretty inexpensive transfer and worth the shot of giving him a chance.

Twellman does want to go back to Europe and he has a nose for the goal in MLS and wants to show he can make it on the National Team.

I'd like to see Dempsey given a shot at CAM.
Limit his defensive liabilities and take better advantage of both his goalscoring and playmaking abilities. I love his fearless nature in front of goal.

He won't be played as a straight CAM, as in one who plays directly behind the strikers, if Reading gets him, most likely. He may be allowed to play more offensively, but he'd still be given a decent amount of defensive responsiblity. Coppell is very unlikely to change his system much, other than on an extremely temporary basis.

I like the idea of signing Dempsey, but he's not an upgrade over Sidwell, I'd think his level of play is about Harper (who is not struggling in the sense of playing poorly, but is struggling to make an impact in the prem). I think he'd be nice cover, but if Sids doesn't re-sign, I'd be very nervous about a midfield pairing of demps and Harps. I'm hoping Fae will be arrive in January.
On the striker, Twellman's not big enough to be a target is he? He would seem more in the Doyle, Long mold of striker, certainly more polished than Long but not an upgrade on Doyle. What Reading need in a new striker is a target, or at least somone (of decent quality) who offers a different look.

He is listed at 5'11 and is good with his head but is not a target forward and is not better then Doyle

Who's that? (No sarcasm intended.)
Are you planning on selling Sidwell in January? If so, to whom?
I would expect Bolton might like him...Speed is getting slow.

Not planning on selling sidwell, but he's out of contract in the summer and has refused to re-sign. I hope he does sign. hate to lose him, but it doesn't look likely.
Fae is an Ivory coast midfielder, plays in france (nantes), highly rated. Reading offered pds 5m this summer, and, according to the beeb, are back in.
Here's a link to his stats:http://soccernet.espn.go.com/players/stats?id=31673&cc=5739

If Sidwell is refusing to resign doesn't it seem that Reading has to sell him? Otherwise they will just lose him and get nothing in return.

Not if they believe (correctly IMO) that he can help them stay up. The money made on selling him would be, tops, pds 4m (best offer in summer was just over pds 3m, and he had more contract left then). Value of staying up, next year, is expected to be more than pds 40 m with the new tv deal.
Selling would be penny wise, but pound foolish...

Why does he not want to resign
