So we play Boro in nine and a half hours and there's no thread yet. Strange.

Meh, I'm a sucker, and an optimistic one at that. 2-0.

I was going to make one but the baby threw up on me when I was typing Middlesbrough.
NUFC: Harper, Srnicek, Krul, Carr, Bramble, Moore, Taylor, Ramage, Babayaro, Parker, Butt, Duff, Emre, N'Zogbia, Solano, Milner, Pattison, Ameobi, Martins, Sibierski, Luque, Rossi.
Rossi is eligible to play after having been forced to sit out the UEFA Cup tie with Fenerbahce but Emre is a doubt after ricking his back on Thursday.
In defence Roeder has some big decisions to make, with Ramage and Taylor hopeful of another run together after Thursday's clean sheet.
That could depend though on whether Babayaro is available to return at left back following his suspension and concurrent groin problem - the Duff option seeming unlikely.
Bernard and Dyer are still working on their fitness, while Owen is a long-term casualty.
Despite Harper performed his own Lazarus act on Thursday, playing again within 72 hours could well stretch him (and his groin) beyond breaking point.
Old boy Pavel Srnicek could therefore be in line to make his first Newcastle appearance for nine years, a decade on from being in the starting XI on our first-ever visit to the Riverside (a 2-1 win).
MFC: Schwarzer, Turnbull, Davies, Parnaby, Woodgate, Huth, Pogatetz, Bates, Taylor, Arca, Boateng, Cattermole, Morrison, Mendieta, Rochemback, Euell, Parlour, Johnson, Yakubu, Viduka, Maccarone.
Jonathan Woodgate has declared himself fit after missing last weekend's victory against Everton. However it remains to be seen whether Gareth Southgate recalls the defender against his former club or persists with the pairing of Pogatetz and Huth.
Ehiogu, Riggott, McMahon and Christie are all fettled.
Referee: Martin Atkinson - replacing the originally-advertised Mike Riley. Atkinson was in charge for our home win against Wigan in August and in last season's home win over Southampton and bore draw at Birmingham.
Kickoff in this non-televised game is at 3pm today.

On an aside, it'll be aired on FSC Monday at 3pm and 8pm EST. I'm pretty certain Century will have it, being that the only time they seem not to air Newcastle games is for 'Boro games.

Hate to see what she would've done had you been typing "Sunderland."

Harper
Carr, Moore, Taylor, Ramage
Milner, Butt, Parker, Duff
Martins, Sibierski
Harper still can't take goal kicks. I don't get why he doesn't get a game off to rest his injury. No Bramble thank god.

Martins causing problems for Boro early on.
Shit, Sibierski through to Martins. Chipped it over Schwarzer, off the bar.

Argh, Martins chips over Schwarzer only to hit the woodwork. Oba's clearly been the most dangerous player on the pitch so far, 14 minutes in.

Harper makes a diving save on a Downing shot. He seems to be their most dangerous player so far. It seems as though he's running down the wing at will.

Ameobi on for an injured Sibierski. Just our luck, Sibierski and Martins were working well together.

'bout half an hour in and Sibierski comes out injured, Ameobi on. Boro lash a shot wide just after the substitution.
EDIT: I keep getting beaten, so I give up. :D

Boro changes to a 3-5-2. No changes for Newcastle.

Boro have hit the post twice in about three minutes.

We haven't threatened nearly as much since Ameobi came on. This is no coincidence.
Duff with a chance, shot it right at Schwarzer.

Taylor clears the ball off the line. Best chance for Boro so far. 10 minutes to play.

Taylor must have heard Jaypro's assessment that he's not good enough. :p

22 Oct 2006, 11:43 AM
Aside from Carr getting continually abused by Downing, it sounds like the back four have played pretty well. Of course, I'll probably see the delayed airing tomorrow and discover that my assessment is full of crap. :o
