A few years ago I was playing on a U-17 rec team in MO. It was a windy day and the other team had a throw-in. The player attempted to throw it to the keeper but the ball went into the goal, untouched by any player. The ref. gave the other team a goal kick. I thought it should a least be a throw-in for us...a goal would have helped up more though! Did the ref make the correct call or what should the call have been? Thanks, I have no refereeing experience.

If your opponent was throwing the ball to their own keeper, and the ball went into the goal without touching any other player on the field, the restart would be a corner kick to your team.

Here is the correct interpretation:
1) The ball is "in play" as soon as it leaves the thrower's hand.
2) A goal cannot be scored from a throw in.
The ball went out of play by the defenders
==> Corner Kick
