I think you have to be related to a mullah or have some serious connections with them to run for office . But seriosuly, Who cares , why would you want to represent those mullahs , they are disgrace to our nation . it’s the Islamic Republic which has ruined Iran and no one should take part in their government , even if it’s a small position .

I am the least politically active member of my extended family by far, just wanted to know what my choices were if I wanted to be more involved someday. The vast majority of Iranians still reside in Iran, if I could someday run for office and better the lives of those who live there, Id be more than willing. In my opnion, helping those who are in need out does helping the current regime, running away and living your life in comfort while charging for change is a cowardly and stupid way to go about helping anyone.

First of all I am not a coward , since your indirectly calling me a coward. By representing the government your only helping the government not the people , when was the last time any government helped ANYONE in Iran? If you want to help the Iranian people go donate some money or something , or start a strong opposition party against the government outside of Iran , because if you do that in Iran you will be spending the rest of your life in Evin . I may be living a comfortable life outside of Iran , but I still care about every TRUE Iranian soul , and I would do anything to have a better country , if living comfortably makes me a coward then every Iranian on this forum is a coward. Let me give a example of me helping Iran , when the Bam earthquake happened I sent 5k dollars to Iran , why? Because I care about THE PEOPLE OF IRAN , and I made sure that the money went to a FAMILY in Bam since the government has a habit of stealing humanitarian aid .

I guess youre completely missing my point. Sending money to help out an earthquake stricken city, its temporary help to fix whats been broken. My idea of help is infrastructure, advancement and the creation of organizations within the system to better the lives and chances of success for everyday Iranians. Building schools, hospitals an foundations via political muscle is what I had in mind. I guess where we differ is that I try to work within the system while you would rather do it from outside and hold back until there are major changes in government. I dont want to do that, afterall its already been 30 years, dont hold your breath for a revolution, its simply not likely. Its as like today as it was 5, 10, or 20 years ago.

You don’t think Iranians inside Iran has you ideas too ? The problem is the fact that the mullahs wont allow you to do such things , why build a school when you can build a mosque? That’s the mentality of our government , if you think that you can change Iran within the government then your fate is just as good as all the political prisoners in Iran . Iran’s political system is setup in way that people like me and you will never be able to make a change , only the chosen people in the government can make those changes and most of the times those changes are against public opinion . Now , I may be a coward ( according to you ) for sitting in the US and talking about all the problems in Iran and not doing anything about it , but what can we do? Khomani was in exile and he changed Iran , beck then people would of never thought the Shah would be overpowered just like how you are saying that the Mullahs will never be overpowered ( with or without a revolution ). If Iran had a STRONG opposition figure like Khomani , then we can change Iran , but we Iranians cant get along anywhere we go , and that’s the main problem with Iran and Iranians , and this why we don’t have a Democratic government today.

Actually the reason why we dont have a democratic government is because we arent ready for it. The population is simply not ripe enough for such a system.
