...that I'm buried in, I mean... (http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/2006/baseball/mlb/10/19/dying.title.ap/index.html?cnn=yes)

It would always remind me of victory over Metros/NYRB.

Screw that, I'm having my ashes scattered in what remains of 120. Because god knows we'll probably still be in RFK when I die. ;)

Or maybe you can convince the team to do for you what Colorado did for Clint Mathis this year: cart your lifeless, empty husk out onto the sidelines for each game.

The concept is inherently funny.

The execution is brilliant, and is what lifts it to another level. "Cart," and "lifeless, empty husk," especially "husk," elevate this joke from the hilarious to the Hall of Fame.

Definately Repped

You don't have to be a DC fan to find that funny (and sadly true).

I was in Manchester this spring and took the tour of Old Trafford. Most impressive. While we were taking the tour, there was a funeral service, more precisely a memorial sevice, going on. They allow a few family and friends to bring the deceased's ashes and commemorate his/her life. They used to allowed the ashes to be spread on the field, but there was so many that it was killing the grass. Now they have a special area designated. Our guide said they often have several services a day.

They also have several banquet rooms that one can rent for occassions such as weddings. Our guide's daughter was married there a few months before our tour.

I know the culture is different, but it is amazing to have your life so tied up with your football club.

Like my life isn't tied up with my stinkin' football club?

I hate to think how many hours I spend on soccer- and DCU-related stuff, and I REALLY hate to think how much money I've dropped following this team.

And it's only been a decade.

I know I'm not the only one by a LONG shot.

I'm going to have my hair sprinkled over all the sections of our stadium. Should be easy enough to arrange - it's falling out anyway. :D

Matt, my post was one of admiration, not surprise. I just hope I live long enough to have my ashes spread over the pitch of XXXXXX Park at Poplar Point.

I saw this the other day when it made it onto the Yahoo! home page as a headline, and I, too, was wondering if soccer teams will follow the lead of baseball on this.

I'm a bit surprised, though, Matt, that you'd want to be buried in the Atlantic Cup. If I were you, I'd just have my ashes put in a few easy-to-carry bags with the DC United logo on 'em, and that way the person who winds up taking pictures of all the games can tote you along so it'd be like you never shuffled off this mortal coil in the first place... ;)

The problem is that people who take pictures on sidelines don't need one more thing to carry.

No, there has to be a better way.

Perhaps my ashes could be injected into the covers of the new MLS soccer balls. Then this game could continue to

...wait for it...

kick my ash

...as it has done for the past month.

I am VERY nervous about tomorrow. If we lose or draw tomorrow I am going to be a wreck.

I fall squarely between admiration and surprise.

Part of me laughs at people who would do something like that, and then I step back and realize that most people think that I would do something like that.

Worse, I might consider it in a moment of weakness... :o
