Someone asked me this and I didn't know:
Was the reason Jaime stopped playing w/ the Bolivian national team because of a disagreement w/ the coach, or because of his playing form?
I seemed to recall the former, but wasn't sure. In any case, it sure seemed like he could have contributed more than he did.

Except that the former would mean he's disagreed with half a dozen coaches over the last couple cycles.
Bolivia certainly could've used him.

La Paz is at 12,000 feet altitude. Take that how you will.

That's a good point. I don't recall seeing anything about how he had decided to stop playing internationally in order to prolong his club career, a la Friedel, or innumerable others, so I guess we don't know what really happened.

That happens to me ALL THE TIME. I mean, that's why I don't play for the national team.

I thought it was because the La Paz altitude got to you.

For awhile, and this even happened with Marco, there was talk out of the South American media that Jaime was dropped because, and I swear I'm not making this up, playing in MLS had caused him to lose his form and he wasn't as good as their domestic-based players and the handful of cats that had in Europe.
Of course, Bolivia hasn't done squat on the international stage since qualifying for the 94 WC, so maybe, just maybe, the problems ran a little deeper than Jaime playing in a low-level league like MLS, but that's just me.
Regardless, I've always found it odd that Jaime has played so little for Bolivia the past few years while Bolivia has continued to suck ass.

Well that is true, the bolivian media considered Moreno and Etcheverry bullshit for being able to tear it up down here inthe states, and didnt consider them up to par to the players they had back then, as when they got called up to the squad they didnt make much of a difference. Although some will say, by reading their physical language on the field, it seemed at the time sorta un easy for etch' and moreno when playing. Moreno didnt seem to make get much balls or even gel'd good enough with the team, and same goes for etch.
But to the claim that Boivia hasnt done squat since 94 is false, They made it to the finals to the Copa america 97 While finally losing to Brazil 3-1. This was the last time i have ever seen bolivia shine like this, and actually play as a team as they did.
Now though, since a change of coach in bolivia to Former 94' player Erwin 'Platini' Sanchez, Moreno might, get called up. But I doubt now that i think about it..... Hell he probably would tell them to ******** off. :p No good currupted FBF.

But isn't that coincidently (or not) about the last time that Jamie and Marco got called up? I seem to remember about not worrying about their call-ups in 98 or 99.

Good memory, this was Bolivia's starting eleven in that final against Brazil:
Bolivia Brasil
[1] TRUCCO Carlos (Arq.)
[2] PEÑA Juan Manuel
[7] CASTILLO Sergio
[5] SÁNCHEZ Oscar
[3] SANDY Marco Antonio
[16] CRISTALDO Luis Héctor
[22] BALDIVIESO Julio César
[6] SORIA Vladimir
[21] SÁNCHEZ Erwin
[10] ETCHEVERRY Marco Antonio
[9] MORENO Jaime (-74')
Btw, I often read (on these boards in particular) that the Copa America is no longer competitive insofar as the Conmebol participant's no longer send their "A" squad. Here's Brazil's starting 11 in that final (basically their World Cup squad):
[1] TAFFAREL (Arq.)
[2] CAFÚ
[16] GONÇALVES
[3] ALDAIR
[6] ROBERTO CARLOS
[8] DUNGA
[19] FLÁVIO CONCEIÇÃO (-62')
[20] DENILSON
[10] LEONARDO (-79')
[9] RONALDO
[21] EDMUNDO (-67')

i doubt he will get called up, he wont last in La Paz, frankly i believe we should move to Santa Cruz, since most of our important players (raldes, alvarez, botero, castillo) arent ready/adapt for the altitude.

It is a fine accomplishment, especially when you see who Brazil had on the field as it speaks to the quality of players in the tournament.
But since Bolivia hasn't done much since then, I'll stand by the rest of my statement about them sucking ass!

They were called up a few times after 99ish, because i perticularly remember them and seeing them in pictures with Athletica Jerseys not the Umbro ones. If anyones interested By any chance, i got a bunch of old Vintage 97-ish Umbro Bolivia Jersey's brand new for sale. :p

Yep, and theres a reason for that... the FBF doesnt let bolivia nurture their talent. If you look at the players that bolivia has, we should have a semi decent team, but unlike other countries all the FBF care for is money, so thats why they never let players leave their league teams until like a week before the match or something rediculous to train. They just dont give priority to the national team, also bolivia doesnt have tahuichi to cultivate and raise kids to play like we did in the past, im pretty sure they went bankrupt. Its all political, and until we can break the curruption we will never have a 94' team ever again. :(

Tahuichi was world renowned for its player development yet it seems like after Moreno's generation they hadn't produced spit. I mean, Joselito Vaca was supposed to be their next great star and we saw what happened there.
It just seemed like the county's ability to produce high-level talent ground to a halt.
I'm sure there is talent there (at least, I assume there is), it just doesn't seem like it's being cultivated the way it once was. What happened?

There always will be, but they never cultivate it. There was big news of a bolivian teenager getting picked up by real madrid whos like 14 and is in their youth system as we speak. ALso there was this teenager prodigy years ago who was playing for the youth team of bayern munich, but i dont know what i happened to that guy. Last i heard was he was in the Reserves for them. He should be like 21 now i believe.

this is the last i heard from him..........
Bayern Munich reserves defeated Ever Ready SA last sunday in India to claim the 111th Indian Football Association (IFA) Shield trophy. Bolivian striker José Luis Ortíz played all ninety minutes and scored twice for Bayern in the final as the Germans beat the local team 5-1. Ortíz has been doing well with the reserves since arriving from Tahuichi in 2000, and is now a strong candidate for the regular team next season.
