So what did everyone think? A quick half hour listing of all the teams and a few key players. Not bad, not good.

A few nitpicks:

1.) The pro LA Galaxy bias. I know the show is based in LA, but the bias oozing out of Bretos and Miles mouths was making me sick.

2.) That crazy rock music playing in the background for the whole half hour! I hear enough of it during MLS games on the Shootout Package...enough!

That said, I am looking forward to FSW covering matches this year and hope that Bretos is the man for the games. His love of the game really makes Galaxy games bearable to watch.

Max couldn't decide whether to say "MLS" or "the MLS".

There was the very strange segment early with the DC and SJ footage. What was that all about?

It was obviously hastily arranged, but I thought they did a fairly good job given the time constraints, and the fact that they only had 20-22 minutes to work with.

I agree not bad. Wating so long to get this taped did allow them to add the Grimandi and Dallas stadium info.

If you hadn't been reading these boards all off season, it was a nice intro to MLS 2003. That being said, that show could have been an hour without any problems.

I too picked up on a Pro-LA bias, but I wanted to make sure it wasn't just the SJ fan in me ;)

By time constraints, I meant the 4/2 to 4/5. While the rumors of MLS on FSW this season have been rampant since February, and percolating since January, 2002 when the new deal with Disney was announced as "non-exclusive", I'm pretty sure the names weren't signed on the dotted line until very recently. And I can't imagine FSI sinking too many research/production resources into a product that may not take off.

What would be curious to know is whether most of the "research" for this opener came from inhouse, or from MLS/SUM. I'm guessing the latter, given the short timeframe.

I have to agree with the "not good, not bad" sentiment. It's great that it happened, but I can't say that I learned anything new from watching it.

From an editing standpoint, here are my nitpicks:
(a) the graphics were overused,
(b) too many goal celebrations--I don't need to see every forward in the league taking their shirt off, and
(c) the little "boom" sound (or whatever it was) that combined with the graphics was also overused.

All that said, I'm thrilled that we're going to have a weekly highlights show again this season and I'd bet it is going to be even better than the old ESPN2 one.

Not very impressive but, I agree, it was probably thrown together very quickly. And FSW IS based in LA, so I guess is was obvious that they'd spend so much tim on LA (and Sigi). Being that they're the defending champs made it an obvious choice, too.

Anyway, I hope for far better production values on the MLS Wrap show. And for God's sake, get rid of that annoying-as-hell FSNet MLS theme music. I hope, too, that they're broadcast that show from a set and not just have disembodied voice-overs of MLS highlights for an hour.

Kinda low-rent, but I'll take it.

The constant music is annoying. The graphics moved too quickly. If you really wanted to read the rosters, you need to be a speed reader.

That's what I said. It did allow them to mention these.

Do you really think that a company whose main ad is for EnerX would be high rent? :)

While watching the Crew-Galaxy match, Waldo was interviewing John Harkes and John said that he's retired and is planning to be on MLS Wraps on FSW. Any thoughts on him being part of the show along with Christian Miles?

I'm guessing Sean Wheelock.

L.A. is the defending champ and the overwhelming favorite this year. I wouldn't call it "pro-L.A. bias" to feature them so heavily.

I liked it - especially considering the short time frame they had to get it together.

But it beats the ESPN2 MLS preview show hands down.

I'd go with trendy pick, not overwhelming favorites. We're not talking about the '72 Dolphins here...
