View Full Version : Convey or Hunt?

Okay, I think Convey is a better player. But I think Hunt is more of a pest. I also think that after last weekend, it's difficult to sit Hunt and not have it look like a lack of support. In addition, this knee thing has been going on for two months now with Convey.
Reading lack width without Convey. Hunt's corners were quality, though. And, aside from being accused of attempted murder, he did some very nice things (the feed to Doyle for the shot off the post was great).
So, who starts?

I voted for Convey only because Yanks Abroad is reporting that he is fit. I am assuming that means he is fully fit and not just fit enough to play. Otherwise I would have no issue with Hunt in there. I thought he was an adequate fill in for Bobby. I don't really think Hunt has any misconception about the club or his manager backing him on the Cech challenge. Both the club and Coppel issued statments backing him and Hahnemann did as well. The press may play games with it if he sits, but I think he know he is supported. Also, the FA reported that there will be no further action taken against him so that should end it.

I'd rather see Convey start, I think he'll give Arsenal more problems running at them and at least hopefully prevent them from just constantly attacking. Hunt can then come off the bench for the last 20 or so minutes, as he does quite often.

I voted for Convey for selfish reasons. As a DC United fan, I'm glad to see our boy doing well for himself. Now that Reading is in the Big's, I get to see them more often. I'm really curious to see how Bobby will match up against Arsenal. Should be a really good match overall. Reading played a hell of a match last week.

This does not sound good. We may be seeing even more of Mr. Hunt.

The US international has missed Reading's last two games, against Chelsea and Arsenal, having started the first seven of his club's inaugural Premiership campaign, and is now walking visibly hurt.

"I've really been limping a lot and have not been alright," Convey confirmed. "I trained the last few days but it swelled up really bad so I could not play against Arsenal."
...
"It definitely sucks missing these two games but hopefully I'll come back on Saturday. We'll see."

Convey does add width to the team. He does show some creativity at times and I think he's a good addition to the team.

Hunt.. I'm not so sure about. I don't know what to think of him. He shows a lot of heart and he annoys the hell out of defenders with his aggressive plays... but with all that he really lacks end product. He loses alot of balls, and he sort of has that kamakazi (sp?) attitude when he gets the ball in the wing, which goes nowhere.

In the Arsenal game, he was utterly useless. Don't get me wrong..he showed a lot of heart and he was trying his all, but he just couldn't create a single threat the whole game.

He played pretty well against Portsmouth from I've heard here. (http://www.bigsoccer.com/forum/showthread.php?t=428735)

Some insight in a quote taken from the iberkshire site:

http://icberkshire.icnetwork.co.uk/0275readingfc/0100news/tm_headline=hunt%2D-%2Di%2Dve-got-my-hunger-back%2D%26method=full%26objectid=18032851%26siteid=50102-name_page.html

"And Coppell spoke of his frustration with USA winger Convey who has been nursing an injury since the summer.

"I don't think Bobby Convey has been anywhere near his best this season," argued Coppell.

"He came back from his World Cup excursions and I still think he has a lot to deliver.

"He's getting close to 100% fitness. But you can't continue in the Premiership on just 70 or 80%.

"You have to be 100% or nothing."

hmmm. He also noted, in a sky report, that he's considering Seol and Doyle up top. little on the right. That would probably mean Convey on the left. But there is frustration building. Frankly, Hunt is not good enough to force a switch for anything more than a couple games. Seol and Little are, though. He has some time yet, it appears, but Convey has to get healthy.

"Reading wing terror Bobby Convey was left out of the Saturday selection at Liverpool due to a continuing knee ailment, but the club are crossing fingers he can be ready for Sunday's visit from Spurs."

"Even had Bobby been able to go, Steve Coppell was planning on playing Stephen Hunt anyway for tactical reasons."

Yep, if he get healthy soon he definately risks losing his spot in the lineup, especially if another striker is added or Coppell decides to play Lita again. I don't really want to see Seol have to move up top with Doyle, just because he's been so good at times from the wing.
