View Full Version : More Setanta schedule problems (No Inter/Spartak today???)

So it's 11:45pm Mountain time Wednesday night and I turn on the TV to start Inter/Spartak Moscow recording at midnight, which is when both my DirecTV program guide and Setanta's own website schedule say the Inter/Spartak match would be rerun. Lo and behold, they are starting Sporting Portugal/Bayern Munich which a) shouldn't be on and b) you'd think it would start at midnight if it was. What the hell is Setanta's problem running tape delayed games. Even worse is that I went to Setanta's website to check their schedule and their front page gave away the result of CHelsea/Barca that I had also recorded today to watch later. I've just about had it with them, does anyone know if Inter/SPartak was on at 3pm this afternoon like their earlier schedule claimed?

I am not sure what the deal is with Setanta playing tape-delayed games at the wrong times. If they have a schedule they should stick to it. I ran into this problem recording some Euro 2008 qualifiers over the last week and a half.

If the schedule says a match is to be shown at 8:00PM, Setanta should stick with that time slot. I know the channel does not have a lot of commericals, but they need to find some filler material and hold off on starting matches until the designated time.

It is pissing a lot of people off and they need to sort it out in a hurry at Setanta.

It's pissed me off because I wanted to watch my Lions play, even if it was tape delayed. I will hope that ESPN Deportes will still show Sporting x Bayern Munich today at 4 pm EST...

They were supposed to be showing the panathinakios-happel tel-aviv tie but instead they decided to show a replay of the 2005 heinken cup final..

Almost any soccer-themed media website should be avoided if you want to watch a game without learning the score.

The Inter-Spartak game was not on Live, nor was it one of the two other games they played later that afternoon. The Bayern game was on when the Inter game was listed in the earlier time slot.

Thx,

Jay!

Thanks for the info, that does it, I am cancelling Setanta today (after the Italian highlights show :D ). With international football entering a long vacant period and their extreme unreliability in scheduling, it's just not worth it for me anymore. I'll probably give in and resubscribe when the Champions League restarts in February though... I urge everyone to at least email them regarding scheduling complaints (not that they ever answer mine) and maybe someday they'll get their act together.

I would wait until the next round of CL games passes but then again I wouldn't cancel with the Prem still going, Ligue 1, quality Dutch league clashes on the way, etc. But point well taken about emailing them. I did this after the Euro problems but will do it again. The Inter-Spartak game looked like it would be a better match. Take care.

Because of the scheduling problems most channel websites run into (and even Dish/DirecTV channels have this) I use soccernet.com as my source to find out at what (almost) exact times games start.
Hell, I get even the Chilean league games start times from there :p .
When it comes to tape delays they're supposed to show, and they don't start at the right time, that seems like a really big problem.
Go to soccertv.com...they have very reliable schedules, imo.

The big problem is not missing a live game per se since many of us are working when the matches air; rather, by the time we watch the DVR or VCR it's too late to re-record the game. For example, I didn't sit down to watch the Porto-Hamburg match until 3 days after it aired. When I watched the game switched to the Lille-AEK match after about 10 minutes due to some technical problems. I understand technical problems are beyond Setanta's control, but had I known about the switch because Setanta noted it on the Web site I would have recorded the game again later that day (either to see the Porto-Hamburg match or to actually see the Lille-AEK game in its entirety). Either way, I think we need to get [NO-R] threads going each matchday for the CL and Euros since all the network's channels show scores somewhere on the pages. These threads will highlight these kinds of problems so folks can either re-tape or just know what to expect. Since I'm suggesting this, I'll start it on the next matchday although I won't have a lot to report since I'm at work during the day. Take care.

This is what you can do.

1) Hook up your cable/satellite box to your PC (via a TV capture card), as well as to your VCR/PVR.

2) at the beginning of a game that you are recording, go back to your home PC ("remote desktop" or VNC) from your office.

3) Turn on the TV capture, and stream the game to your office.

4) Use a player to watch the game, see whether it's really the game you want to record.

In both cases, I use the VLC media player.

The purpose of this exercise is not really watching the game in the office, but to verify that it's actually the game you want to record. In my case, my ISP's upstream bandwidth is very small, it won't be good enough to watch the game. But the still pictures will tell me whether it's showing AEK X Lille or Sporting X Bayern. And since it's early in the telecast, getting spoiled at the 5th minute of the game isn't a problem (at least to me).

I also use this way to record games on my PC if I forget to set the VCR for recording. So even if I don't have the game on tape, at least I have it in a file.

Of course, if Setanta change one game to another in the middle of the telecast because of technical problems, it won't help you at all.

What has happened in the past with setanta is they re-run whatever game was broadcasted due to any technical problems. Though you will still see the initial game on your tv guide, its actually a repeat of whatever game was aired and thesame starting point so you are not missing by not re-recording.

I agree with the thread suggestions though i am usually home to watch the games each CL game day atleast 30mins late in the game so i can skip thru the halftime shows. If anything happens, i can help post it if it matters.

On the note of programming - set ur recording stop time atleast 15mins later with midweek games and especially cup competitions.Since there must be a winner, you never know. It's happened twice already and wont mention anything else but if you havent watched the cup games on setanta, you should so you can make-up where you have to. Hope i didnt ruin anyone's game watching.
