View Full Version : What my tarot cards have to say about the playoffs

Hi all:

In my other life (not as a writer/editor), I do numerology reports, aromatherapy and read tarot cards for myself and others. I'm a serious student of the tarot, and I have been reading them since the age of 17. I've found that if I respect them, they respect me.

So, with that in mind, I put on some of my DC United October blend of aromatherapy oil (smells really good!), and this morning I asked them what they thought about the upcoming playoffs against New York. I use a double Celtic cross spread with an advice card and a timing card. As the timing doesn't matter here, because we know when the games are going to be, I made the timing card a warning card.

I'll describe each set of cards as I go through their positions in the deck
NOTE: I've been reading the tarot for UMPTEEN years now, so it requires not only seeing the cards and how they're placed/paired in the deck, but also the overall view of how they fit in with the rest of the cards AND the question.

The Center or the Current Atmosphere: Ten of Pentacles and Four of Pentacles

The pentacles are all about work and whether or not something comes to fruition. The Ten of Pentacles show that DC United has borne the fruit of their labors--they're headed to the playoffs. Matched with the Four of Pentacles, which is also solid material achievement and holding on to what they've got. They've come this far; they want to hold on to what they've got and not let all this work go to waste by not beating New York.

What Crosses (Influences) the Center: (one card only here) Six of Wands

Victory!!!! This card is all about winning the battle and coming out victorious. They've worked hard and have something to show for it.

The Base (Current Overall Situation): Eight of Wands and Knight of Pentacles

The Eight of Wands represents fast action and forward movement (hello, this is soccer!!!) and the Knight of Pentacles here doesn't stand for a person but for steady progress towards one's goals and a true belief in the cause one is questing for--will never give up as long as the cause is just. (One win at a time.) Fast action on the field with steady progress being made.

The Recent Past: Three of Pentacles and King of Pentacles

The Three of Pentacles means being an expert in one's field (the soccer field, in this case), and the King of Pentacles can be a person (Piotr Nowak, of course) or it can be a situation. The King of Pentacles shows someone who is more about deeds than words--talk is cheap but actions are what get you places. It shows him as being someone who puts a lot of thought into what goes on beforehand and isn't one to make snap, hasty decisions. All about the planning.

The Near Future: Queen of Swords and Six of Swords

In this case, the Queen of Swords is most definitely not a person (unless we get news of a certain coach having a sex change operation between now and Saturday) but being at the top of your mental game. Being able to outwit one's opponents. The Six of Swords is moving away from recent bad times (losses) and moving on to steadier, more optimistic times. Putting the bad behind you. It can also show good planning and having a good trip, as well as being able to see the current situation with mental clarity and not have the wool pulled over your eyes.

How We (DC United) view the situation: Eight of Swords and the Ace of Swords

The Eight of Swords shows an interference with being able to carry out one's plans. Feeling trapped and not being able to move forward--not showing good mental judgement or having mental clarity. The Ace of Swords shows the exact opposite--clearness of thought and being able to see any situation with the necessary mental clarity needed to succeed. My interpretation of the pairing of these cards is that we've been held back by our losses and haven't been playing the game mentally as we should be, but the Ace of Swords shows it's a whole new ballgame. The Aces stand for new beginnings, so we'll be shedding all that interference by cutting through with our mental agility.

How Others (The Dead Bulls***ters) see the situation: Seven of Cups and Ace of Pentacles.

The Seven of Cups literally means illusionment. Here it stands for illusions of success. It can also symbolize the scattering of energies--which way to go, what to do? Oh, my!!! The choices!!! The Ace of Pentacles once again shows a new beginning, with the DB's thinking that their hardwork and dedication to their cause will get them through. The Ace of Pentacles is a very strong card--but, not so much when paired with the Seven of Cups. They've got delusions of grandeur going on here, and they're thinking they're just going to, uh, bulldoze their way past us.

Hopes and Fears (Ours): The Ten of Cups and The Two of Wands

The Tens stand for a fruition of all that has gone before. Like the Ten of Pentacles in the Center of the spread, the Ten of Cups shows happiness, but this is more of an emotional kind than of the material kind shown with the Ten of Pentacles. We want that emotional joy from winning. The Two of Wands here is also a card of success through hard work and planning--wands signify action, so we're hoping all our hard work and action out on the field brings us that emotional joy.

The Outcome: The Moon and the Nine of Pentacles

When I first saw The Moon in the outcome position, I wasn't exactly thrilled. The Moon usually means disillusionment or falseness--reality was a letdown. It can also mean (whew!) staying your course and not letting anything that appears real to get you off the course you have chosen--don't be disillusioned by what seems to be going on. Thankfully, The Moon is paired with The Nine of Pentacles, which is a positive card, meaning material gain, rewards, past accomplishments coming back to bring good fortune. More on the outcome in a bit...

The Highest Possible Outcome: The Knight of Wands and the Seven of Wands

Before I get to what these cards mean, when I saw them, it gave me hope that The Moon wasn't going to keep DC United from the victory we're all so hoping for. The Highest Possible Outcome means the *other* outcome that we're likely to get if all doesn't go according to plan, or if the advice card isn't followed. And this set of cards still shows DC United doing well. The Knight of Wands is all about energy, forward movement, and not being able to be held back. One's goals are going to be reached come hell or high water. The Seven of Wands shows an intense struggle against heavy competition, with a mighty battle ensuing, but we are still able to hold our own and be victorious, but perhaps not without a few injuries. If The Moon had been paired with a more negative card, and the Highest Possible Outcome wasn't all that, either, I probably wouldn't have taken all this time to type this up (and I lost half the damn file, too).

The Advice Card: The High Priestess

The High Priestess is all about knowledge, and looking within. The advice here is that DC United *has* to go on what they know about themselves, what they're capable of achieving, and playing a *mental* game, not so much a physical one. It is going to be the mental aspects of the playoffs that make us or break us. It is also about being self-contained and not letting the seeming reality of the situation get to us. With The Moon card being so prominent in the outcome, and the Moon itself playing a part with the High Priestess, as it's a mental card, then the team MUST deal with reality, play a mental game, and not let anything they *think* might be happening get in their way, or they will not succeed. The High Priestess is all about channeling the knowledge within in this case--success will come if that is done.

The Warning Card: Seven of Pentacles

All of that hard work has come to nothing. If the team doesn't apply what they know, plays a physical game instead of a mental one, doesn't plan effectively and put that plan into action, and keep their eye on the real, as opposed to letting themselves get offtrack, well, all of that hard work all season is down the drain. No moving on.

I don't know if The Moon card means that we lose the first game (it came up first out of the two cards in the Outcome position), and win the second one, but there's that possibility. It would make sense that they follow the advice card of The High Priestess card if they do and remember to keep their wits about them and not let themselves get sidetracked. They *can't, can't, can't* have an emotional playoff here--it's got to be all about the mindset, and beating the opponent mentally.

That's all I've got for right now. Whew. 2 minutes to lay the cards out, another two minutes to analyze them, and over an hour to type this all up. I'm interested in seeing how all this plays out, but thought you all might like to see what they have to say about all this. And yes, I'm available for private readings. ;)

I just consulted my SPSS Magic Eight Ball, which returned "You Got a Raw Score".

In my other life I am not an expert on reading the SPSS Magic Eight Ball, but that reply makes me very worried about this series.

Will DC United win MLS Cup 2006?
Sarcastic Eight Ball says: Not A Chance
Affirmation Eight Ball: You Look Marvelous
Regular Eight Ball: Without A Doubt

I'll go with wcevery4years predictions. Eight balls are just giving me mixed signals.:D

I don't know if The Moon card means that we lose the first game

No, it means what certain members of the traveling roadshow will be giving the ref (http://gpsinformation.net/exe/harvest-moon.jpg) from the upper deck.

So in other words you're a con man.
This is the classic case of the pot and kettle. Criticise someone for a con job, yet the "team" you "support" is the classic confidence job. Course, if you've a problem with your hypocrisy...
