It was the Boswell and Gomez show and that crazy shot by Erpen against NYRB in Giants Stadium was goal of the year.

Very nice event in an interesting event venue.

Gros - Coach's award for most improved player

My first reaction to this was "huh? I honestly didn't think he was that improved." But then I wondered who I would pick -- who does impress me with their improvement over last year?

Wait -- Troy.

But other than Troy, I dunno.

I think Troy would have been my pick. The difference in him over last year is remarkable. While Josh has improved his defending, I think he's still too often a liability in the attack.

The Erpen GOTY award was the big surprise. When they showed the highlights of all the goals being considered, the other players stood up and bowed to Christian when his goal was shown. To me it was far and away the winner and one of the best goal I've seen in years.

I guess they didn't want him winning four of the seven awards, though.

Seems like Troy should have received some kind of award. I think Nick was Defender of the Year last year, but then again, it's hard to argue with Boz for this year's award....Maybe they should have given a Goalkeeper award this year, too.

No rookie of the year?

No rookie of the year?

Nope. There were seven awards - the ones I listed earlier.

Very nice outing. Congrats to all the winners but they're not done collecting awards yet.

Did any rookie play enough to deserve such an award? Dyachenko led the pack with 298 minutes, not even 4 full games worth.

"Most Improved Player" always implies that sure you were good at the end of the season but that you also really sucked at the beginning

"Coaches Award" sorta implies your team spirit and willingness to play anywhere and contribute in any way you can - And come through on the field - Sorta surprised Benny didn't get anything

As for Perkins, he coulda been recognized as most critical addition to the team from last year, but then that would have been a real slap in the face of Rimando, who (BTW) was our last MLS Cup winning goallee

And The Galleria was a really cool place for this - Great food, free drinks and a chance to mingle with your players - The Pre-Season Kickoff Lucheon and Post-Season Awards Reception are great chances for the fans - And all the proceeds go towards United For DC - I really can't understand why more people aren't at these things

PS: Catherine Marquette also got special recognition for her efforts in starting United For DC and making it the model for the whole league

A 60% increase in price, and "stuffier" location, I think were the two main ones I heard :)

okay, so whats on the back left and the two on the far right? One should be an Open Cup trophy...

and can we just put that picture up in place of a tagline for the forum?

Back left is the Open Cup. To the right is the Eastern Conference Championship trophy in front and, uh, the Atlantic Cup in back.

KP even made fun of the Atlantic Cup in his remarks to the crowd.

Anyone know when they started awarding conference championship trophies?

I think since the beginning, they didn't bring ALL of the trophies in the case to the reception.

I'm sure the main reason Perkins didn't get the COACH'S most improved player award is because he's a keeper and I think Nowak would rather shove his mother under a metro train that give an award of any kind to a keeper. A nice comment during the press conference after a shutout game with numerous saves, yes. Official award? Not a chance.

Did anyone ever see Nowak pass to Perkins? Didn't think so.

That alone would be worth the price of admission. :D
