Chelsea goal-keeper Petr Cech has undergone surgery for a depressed fracture of the skull after getting injured during their 1-0 win at Reading on Saturday.

Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho said immediately after the game that he was deeply unhappy with Stephen Hunt's challenge and said Cech was "lucky to still be alive".

I think those are 2 different people. The guy with the oxygen mask is their backup goalie - he got injured too.

I saw that challenge and Hunt did go in needlessly there. I'm not sure if he was trying to hit Cech, but he got him with his shinpad right on the face, and you saw Cech's head snap like a boxer when Hunt hit him. I can't read intent, but he didn't have to have is leg there, and Hunt should get some extra time on the bench via suspension to think that tackle over. A keeper is defenseless in that situation, and there is no need to stick a leg in when he's already on the ground, ball in hand. I am never one to condone Mourinho's outrage since he's a jackass, but there is some legitimacy in calling for a suspension here.
