I was thinking the same thing about Battery fans. This should add a bit of extra spice to Southern Derby.

I guess I'm alone on this one but I think there's a pretty sizeable risk in naming a head coach with ZERO prior coaching experience. I'm sure it will make for some interesting interactions on the bench with opposing fans.

You are correct, it could be a sketchy proposition. However it coudl work. Nowak worked up in DC.
Here's a little bit more of what Schweitzer hsa been upto. Played until the end of the 05 season and apparently has worked with a youth club since.

Klinnsman, Juergen
Keane, Roy
Scheweitzer is a bright guy, he knows the league and he knows his bosses. He'll be fine.

I'm not saying it's never been done, I know players like Nowak, et. al, have been successful. And SS has a good knowledge of the league and its players. But coaching takes a certain skill set and things like patience and discipline have never appeared to be his strong suit. If things get stormy, instead of steadying the ship, I can see him just throwing some players overboard.....

Nowak, Peter
Klinnsman, Juergen
Keane, Roy
And in the USL...
DeSantis, Nick
Am I worried about Schweitzer's lack of head coaching experience? Nope. I have trouble sleeping, but that's not what's keeping me awake.

Maybe I'm just noticing it now but it does seem like alot of former players who played in USL-1/A-league are now starting to coach in the league. Does anybody know how many former USL players are now coaching in the 1st? I count 5; Magee, Wilkinson, DeSantis, Scheweitzer, and Anhaeuser. Did I missing any?

Same with MLS: Bliss, Yallop, Kinnear, Nowak, with more to come, I'm sure. The side benefit of a league that can sustain.

Yes, and lets not forget all the assistants in both leagues(Richie Williams, John Harkes,Mo Johnston, Steve Morrow, etc). For the longest time one of the main issues in US soccer was lack of quality coaches. Domestic pro-leagues provide new coaching candidates with each round of retiring players.
In my opinion, aside from Lilley, Anhaueser and DeSantis are the brightest in USL1.

Zero surprise. He was present at the franchise announcement, and they all but came out and said he'd be the head coach in 2007.
