Boring boring England eh?
Even if we'd have lost, that would have been a good game worth watching.
Where are those Turkish trolls from the rivalries when you need them?

wow.
even over the radio i could tell that this was an intense, well-played game. englands best performance in months, no question.
does anyone know what the deal was with the fans on the pitch? at one point it was being said a tv cameraman was even among them....? i'm thinking sunderland wont be hosting any more internationals anytime soon.
rooney seemed to be solid. vassell was a pleasant surprise.
did any crowd trouble come about? i know many were worried about it.
what a game. cant wait until istanbul.

BBC said abut 100 English supporters were arrested outside the stadium. There were apparently some injuries, too, but no Turkish supporters seemed to be involved in any of it. It was a well-deserved win, but I wonder what impact these problems will have?

No, fuss abut nothing.
Expect a few people to come on after getting a second against Turkey. They didn't mean any harm. Just excited, they went back to their seats after 20 seconds or so.
It won't stop Sunderland getting another game at all.

England deserved the victory. You played well, and we (Turkey) had a bad day.
Congrats!

England really played a good game tonight
Rooney was spectacular although he faded out towards the end. England did a great job of applying pressure against the Turkish back line, and Vassell coming on was just what they needed against tired defenders.
Turkey did look unspectacular, Ilhan and Nihat were on-factors.
England played with pride (yes the tempers did flare, but one could easily tell that England really wanted this one badly) and they'll get full marks from their fans and the media after this one. They also played with great patience. At about the 35th minute, England settled down and started to dominate possession. The Turkey defense had their hands full from that point on...
...but with some unlucky bounces and some great saves by Rustu, I'm sure a lot of people were thinking that it was going to be one of those games where England may not be able to get the job done. But give them all the credit in the world for sticking to their game and not forcing passes. Eventually they found a way to score.

great game. i'm angry at the england supporters slagging off our boys after the liechtenstein game, it was a crap game and our boys played to the level of competition but think, remember the germany game, the argy game, and the first half of the brazil game, sven gets them to play for the big occasion, whenever we the supporters think they will turn in a crap performance they do the opposite. congrats.

rooney was wicked in the first half, thats not a boy, its a bloody man. owen played like crap till he got injured.
anyone catch beckham after the pk mouthing to one of the turks "f.uc.k.i.n.g something something"
then he blows some kisses at them, it was beautiful.

Rooney and Rustu were fantastic.
That kid has got a brass pair to be sure. He shied away from nothing, took the ball to the opposition, flung himself in harm's way, and was completely unfazed by the Turks, mixing it up at will.
His composure and skill on the ball were a revelation. Excellent match for the youngster. Although he did seem to have Vassell wide open to his right on a jail break late in the match and chose to go it alone instead, promptly losing the ball.
Beckham and Scholes were also very determined to make things happen, if not get sent off trying.
But in second place to Rooney for Man of the Match was the Turkish keeper Rustu . Some fantastic saves and completely controlled his area, pulling down dangerous crosses like a true professional. And it was only a rebound off yet another blocked shot that did him in. A great performance. And Beckham absolutely buried his PK, giving him no chance: A total blast on the ground and shaving the post.
James does deserve credit for a great save against Emre's (?) late header. But he almost had another nightmare on a high ball he let bounce in the box.
Pretty exciting match on the whole.
Where was Ashley Cole? Or he just out of favor?
