for the past 20 years Peruvian Club futbol has been dominated by Cristal with someone else...sometimes its Alianza sometimes is la U, once Cienciano did something decent and there was that one year Boys got close


I'm always amazed at how people freely (and falsely) twist history when the facts are there to prove them wrong:

the past 20 championships, beginning in 1986:

TITLES

UNIVERSITARIO: 7 titles (87, 90, 92, 93, 98, 99, 00)
CRISTAL: 7 titles (88, 91, 94, 95, 96, 02, 05)
ALIANZA: 4 titles (97, 01, 03, 04)
Union Huaral: 1 title (89)
San Agustin: 1 title (86)

please feel free to elaborate where this "DOMINATION" exactly lies, because I fail to see any....

P.S: what's even worse, in the past decade they only have 2 titles... (and that's one fewer than la U, and two fewer than alianza)
...I think this "domination myth" has been perpetuated by their 94-96 run (and the great 97 libertadores campaign), but after the oblitas-markarian years, domination is an alien word at la Florida, and that's just the facts...

1987 not in top 2, they won the Dezentralizado but fisnished fourth in both the Metropilitan zone and championship group
1988 Champions
1989 lost final to Huaral
1990 not in top 3, 6th or 7th can tell, we had some complicated formats back then

1992 2nd - Libertadores
1993 3rd - Copa Conmebol
1994 Champions
1995 Champions
1996 Champions
1997 third overall
1998 second overall
1999 third overall
2000 second overall
2001 First overall(officially 3rd place)

as the numbers show we have constantly been up there(specially from 91 onwards) more than la U, who i believe has done more in the last 20 than Alianza

basically cristal have been a constant 1, 2 or 3 over the past 20...more than the two compadres, this is shown in their 16 participations of the last 21 editions of la Libertadores compared to 12 by la U and 11 by AL

btw there is no bigger myth than el tri de La U

in 98 Boys had more points (la U were actually 3rd in the overall table)
in 99 Alianza had more points
only in 2000 were la U the "best team"

only our championship system would allow that to happen

having said that, as much as i dont like our Apertura/Clausura system, the system we used back in the 80's was a total mess

whats the point of having heaps of "fans" who never go to stadium to help out their team financially

they built that Stadium for la U fans they must have overestimated how many are true Crema Fans

and that goes for all teams

Peruvian club isnt as popular among the masses, this is shown in all the teams pathetic attendances

sure they will still claim they are from a team, but most woudlnt know 13 or 14 players from the current squad
