First game on 19th of October, Thursday

Newcastle United - Fenerbahçe

Fenerbahçe is in very poor form. An away game in England is tough. I might say that we have no chance.

I can't seem to locate the fixture list, but if we're home to Fener that's huge. If Fenerbahce and Palermo are our home games I'll be a little more optimistic about our chances.

Doesn't give dates, but Fenerbahce and Celta Vigo are our home ties, Palermo and Eintracht away.

From Soccernet...

Newcastle were handed arguably the toughest draw and will host Fenerbahce on October 19, play Palermo in Sicily on November 2, Celta Vigo at home on November 23 and Eintracht Frankfurt away on November 30 in Group H.

Better to go down in flames against good teams than shite ones.

But when we advance from this group with no losses, everyone will fear us!

No luck at all. Almost every other group has 2 patsies.

After this, then the CL teams join. With our luck, Barca will crash out and wind up against us.

Thx,

Jay!

I think Celta Vigo and Palermo will be the toughest. We can definitely beat Eintracht in Frankfurt.

I saw just the same post in a Fenerbahce board :) Even if we advance, with our luck we'll draw Barca on 1/32 finals :D

This draw is shit! Definitely it is group of death. Even, tougher than Liverpool and Galatasaray's Champs League draw!

I don't think that we have a chance against Newcastle at St James's Park.

Quite tough even though we have avoided some of the big guns like Auxerre,Sevilla,Bayern,Sparta

Keep in mind the top THREE, not 2, advance to the knock-out round.

What's interesting to me is that we do not play on the final match-day...which means someone we need to lose may be playing someone who is already eliminated.

What's obvious is we are headed back to 2004-05 season, where we will put all our eggs in the UEFA basket, and as a result be stuck mid-table all season with a killer fixture schedule come spring. See also: Boro last year.

Oy! I think we will make it to the round of 32!

This is a reasonable draw for us to make it out of.

It is tough, but hell, better to go up against good competition now and know how to handle it then go up against a big match later on and be pissin ourselves.

I say trial by fire, and if we pass, than our chances got a crapload better.

By the same token if we are third and barely make it by...we're hosed.

Just remember it's better to be third than second. Unless they changed the draw criteria for the knockout stages, it's the second placed teams that get the Champions League rejects, not the third placed ones.

From Cleazer before...

Pot 1
Sevilla ESP
Newcastle ENG
Panathinaikos GRE
Parma ITA
Ajax NED
Bayer Leverkusen GER
Feyenoord NED
Auxerre FRA

There was no way to actually draw Auxerre, Sevilla or Bayer. They were all in our "top-teir" group of teams.

Thx,

Jay!

We'll be alright in this one lads, if we are gonna do well we have to beat good teams, simple as that.

Also I will get to see the Lads play this year, at Frankfurt, so I am happy ;)

I took a look at the official UEFA document, and Tigerdave is correct ... unless, of course, some UEFA officials get paid off before the round of 32 pairings. ;)
