I felt this way all last year about Titi:
Wenger: "Before he looked up and just thought 'OK, Bergkamp has the ball I'll go'. Now he has to think about the whole global part of the game. It has forced him into more maturity."
Wenger reckons the captaincy has worked well for Henry (http://www.arsenal.com/article.asp?thisNav=News&article=419111&lid=NewsHeadline&Title=Captaincy+has+matured+Henry,+says+Wenger)
The Henry-Bergkamp partnership was unrivaled at the time. Losing Dennis to time and age left Henry stranded. Now he seems to understand that Wenger has put players out there with different capabilities (Van Persie's wicked left foot, Eboue's crosses, Rosicky's long shots, Adebayor's possession and short crosses, and of course Cesc's deft through balls) and that he needs to adjust his play to who has the ball at their feet.
And it works! By spreading the threat, defenses shouldn't be so quick to just clamp down on Cesc and Henry, for example, like they did last year.
