View Full Version : Sirius Now Carrying Champions League

Anyone on the fence about getting satellite radio - you might've been tipped. Sirius will now carry Champions League broadcasts! I'm pretty psyched, because it means I have another listening option during the day at work. They already carry several Premiership games every weekend, as well as having several footy-specific talk shows like The 2 G's, World Soccer Daily and the new Football Show.

I don't pimp too many things on here, but I'm amped about Sirius providing more soccer content.

I got Sirius for my birthday/Father's day, loved it for 2 months, then my radio died -- signal gradually got weaker and finally wouldn't come in at all. Then I had to wait 6 weeks for a warranty replacement that finally arrived yesterday. As I type this I am currently in my 29th minute on hold waiting for a customer rep so I can report that the replacement is bad too -- doesn't detect an antennae. Fortunately (I think) with two units on hand I was able to troubleshoot and found out that it's the old antennae that's bad and the new radio, so if I combine the two sets of equipment I get one that works. I just have to find out what I have to do to be able to keep the ones that work and return the ones that don't. I'm pretty pissed at them right now, but the programming is so good I'll do anything to get it back.

You walked right into the moment -- I really needed a rant.

31 minutes now.

Edit: Just because I know you all care so much, I'm hanging up at 36 minutes because I have to go to work.

Which unit do you have? I have the Starmate Replay and it's awesome.

I have the Sportster Replay, which is pretty cool, too. You can set it to tell you when your favorite teams are on, and get score updates. From the troubleshooting I've been able to do with components from the two sets it looks like the old antennae went bad -- the old unit works with the new antennae. The new unit seems to have had a bad connector -- after repeatedly putting it in the dock and removing it the connectors at the bottom of the radio are no longer visible, and I can hear them rattling about inside. It's too bad I can't just send the nonworking parts back as if it was an ordinary warranty exchange, but since the radios have unique id numbers that won't work. I have to wade through the customer service swamp until I can actually reach a human being. I'm gonna try 'em again this afternoon. Can't wait until I can listen to The Underground Garage again!

NICE! I had XM for the World Cup which I ended up barely using. Then I cut it off when I sold my car.. but Sirius with the Premiership and CL is a real attractive package.

And with the new Stilletto unit coming out you can walk down the street and listen to matches.

At least in my area there are no over-the-air stations that play music I can stand, so it was worth it to me even during the close season. Love the 2 G's, though, and hopefully will get to hear some Arsenal matches when I have to be out and about, running the kids around and can't be by my computer. Kind of a bummer that they now broadcast all Chel$ki matches, though.

Agreed about the Chel$ki exclusive deal. They're already doing a 'True Blue' pre-match show (nauseating) before their match Saturday. They're not providing audio of Arsenal/Charlton.

+1000 on CL, but Sirius is worth the $ just for Howard Stern. If you don't like Stern, you just don't like to laugh.

I have the same Sirius receiver, but this is the third different unit I've had in 3 years. I bought the extended warranty at Best Buy for $40, and have exchanged it for 2 new units since I purchased it. Worth every penny. (I used to manage at Best Buy - so I know the ins and outs of their service plans. I'm no apologist for them, just stating how I know.) The heat when the reciever is mounted on my dash has caused problems - these are ALL covered under the Best Buy warranty. Well worth it - since all I had to do was walk into Best Buy, explain the problem, and then walk to the back to pick out a new receiver since they don't attempt to repair these and just junk them out. My current Sportster Replay unit has a couple buttons that are no longer backlit - so I'm planning to exchange under my service plan for one of the new Stillettos soon.

Unfortunately, I don't have much to offer for help with your current situation.

Oh, and I caught the CL on the first matchday a fortnight ago - it was Chelski -meh....

Its just one game and only on a Wednesday of the Champions League right?

Not much of a deal in that case.

Channel 125 is going to become an all football channel supposedly.

125 is almost already there. They've got The 2 G's, World Soccer Daily and the new Football Show during the daytime (with replays at different points), as well as select EPL and CL matches. I wish they'd expand the matchday coverage a bit, but it's way more than XM and terrestrial radio.

With all that, plus commercial-free music and tons of great talk radio, it's a no-brainer. I would cancel my TV before I cancelled Sirius...it's that good.

Yeah, it seems that 125 is indeed all football all the time. Driving in to the office this morning, they were replaying the Inter-Bayern game.

After spending a total of over an hour on hold (split between 2 calls) I finally got somebody in the warranty department -- turns out I can do the easy thing, combine the two sets of equipment I have on hand, send back the parts that don't work and keep the ones that do. So I'm up and running again!!! Just have to call Customer Service and make sure I get credited for the period I was without service.
