Tricky fixture to start out with. I'd like to see some of the young ones get a run-out.

Our squad is so big that I doubt many youngsters will get playing time. It would be more useful to give a game to the first team players that aren't playing regularly.

Not an easy first game at all....if Rafa is taking this tournament seriously then he should go for at least a couple of regulars because this is proving to be one solid squad.

Good point. I guess I just would like to see guys like Paul Anderson get a crack at first-team action and games like the Careless Cup are among the few potential opportunities.

But yeah, we gotta keep the squad players happy, so we'll probably see our regulars out there.

Unless Benitez wants Liverpool to repeat the Burnley disaster, he had better field a squad that can compete with the Reading side that is just below them in the table. Remember that Reading had a goal differential last season of 67 and won the Championship by 16 points. Reading is a very tough draw.

im a 100% certain we wont field that side...to inexperienced to face a side of EPL status. Reading are no pushovers, and theve proved it.Dudek, warnock, auerlio and zenden will probably be the only ones certain of starting this game, but i doubt the other will get a start.

I'm glad you are so certain. Reading is not going to field it's best team either.
They didn't last year in either Cup. Their concentration is on staying up. Mark my words.

Less than a week away. Reading gave Chelski all they wanted over the weekend and given how the Blue keepers turned out, I'd say Reina (or whomever starts b/c it won't be Dudek) should wear a helmet.

I can honestly say I do not care about the beer cup. Our players need rest with a busy schedule coming up...the Carling cup should not rest high on anyones priorities right now.

Send out the kids, if we advance a little ways, then we take it seriously. For now, our Prem form and CL should be our true focus.

The way the first team is playing, if Reading is going to send out their reserves, then play our first team to try and get some confidence and cohesion together.

Take it seriously from the start, it might be the only Cup / League we can actually win.

Sadly that may be true. I'm not sure what lineup Rafa will choose, cause 1. he is rafa and 2. I don't know what kind of chase Liverpool wants to put up for the carling cup. I say rest the players with injuries, even if they are slight knocks, and I Crouch will start and probably net two.

And after he nets two he won't start against Aston Villa.

Send out a good team and f'ing thrash them. We're playing with zero confidence right now and we need to kick the shit out of somebody.

I don't mind this very much, but Rafa shouldn't say this and then release that he wants to win the cup. Honestly, the Carling Cup isn't the greatest cup in the world and I don't even know if I care if we win or lose it. But he shouldn't say we are trying to win it and then bring up a bunch of youngsters.

To that end, winning a Cup still means winning a Cup. A trophy is a trophy and we'd obviously never be embarrassed of winning such a thing, even if it's importance ranks below the league, FA, and CL. The accolades, the money, and the spoils that would come in undoubtedly help. Go on and win the damn thing!

Obviously, you don't have to start the entire senior team in the early rounds, with cases such as Finnan's as an example why. I'll be happy to see Fowler out on the pitch tomorrow. Maybe his spark can lead by example.
