Since Wednesday, (and it worked in NYC on Monday), I have had problems getting into my Hotmail account. I had someone else on Hotmail also try and they got the same result. It won't open up upon entering the password or other "secure" information. Does anyone know what the problem with Hotmail is, or might be, or anyway of contacting "them" to report a fault. "P.M.'s" at Big Soccer are the only way of keeping in touch ! Anxiously awaiting replies !!!

I havent had any problems accessing my por...i mean work emails from my hotmail account

maybe something to do with an error on the page..try refreshing it and making sure there are no error on the screen which you can see in the bottom left of the screen in IE

Does it come up with an error message when you try and login? Or does it just hang?

Haven't had any probs with hotmail tonight...One thing that did cause a problem woz when I would go back & forth from hotmail to Big Soccer without keying 'Sign Out' on Hotmail first.

Good luck..Hope you fix it.

Do you ever block cookies? I've had that problem, where I clean out some of my cookies (and blocking them from future use) only to realize that I knocked out a cookie for a site that I access by password. Happened to me before with hotmail, and I had to re-release all cookies and start over, and then I could log on fine.

I type in the address and password, and it comes up "incorrect password". I then go to re-set, and send a message to myself (which I can't get into !!!!), then I answer the "secret question", which says the answer is wrong. I have had a friend send a message, plus myself via the help page, and I still can't get into it, and am still awaiting a reply. This has been for 4 days now. Does anyone think someone might have compromised my password and changed it?
(I can possibly think of one person who might have done this). ????
Still looking for further answers and a solution!

Did you make sure the caps lock was off when typing the password?

Was your secret question and answer something anyone else could know?

Yes I have tried a combination of caps on and off, and no one else would know the answer to the question. The woman in the Library had the same problem as me yesterday, although she isn't there today so I can't ascertain any further whether it is just me or not. This problem is not affecting people in the USA or Australia as I have had friends try there for me without difficulty. This is getting a real pain !!!

Jeff,

Are you still on line?

The Green dot indicates that you are.

I have a US & UK hotmail that I've tweeked many times to avoid spam etc. so if you wanna send me a PM with a phone number..I'll call you to see if I can help.(understand if you don't wanna send phone number..perhaps just a PM?)

I've been in a similar situation and know how farkin frustrating it is.

EDIT...Sh*t...your Green dot closed before my reply posted.!!!!!
Anyway mate, I'll be on line for a while if you wanna respond.

I have just tried again and still can't access it. However I have opened up a new account which is working. I still need to get into the old one so anymore advice/suggestions will still be greatly appreciated.

Have you recently tried accessing your Hotmail from a public computer? (such as a Library or coffee shop). If so, then you may be hosed. These systems are often rife with spyware such as key-loggers that record your passwords. Also, When you sign in to hotmail, there is also the option of setting whether you are at public computer. If you didn't do this, then that could be the problem as well since it will save your email address and/or password automatically than if you use a less-secure setting.

I simply choose not to surf on any public computers where I'm required to enter a password. The other option I'd recommed to avoid this type of problem in the future is to get one of those USB thumb drives that use "U3" technology. The U3 is software on the thumb drive that allows you to securely surf off a web browser that you have located on the thumb drive itself. (I recommend Firefox since it's much smaller and has better features) It also comes in handy since it allows you to take all your passwords and settings with you from computer to computer. Personally, I like thumb U3 drives from Sandisk the best, but there are many other good brands to choose from as well. I've seen 1 GB thumb drives going for $20-30 lately - so the convenience along with better security is probably worth it.

you can PM me if you have questions as well.

i dont think the problem is someone getting the password

because he said he couldnt get in using his question and if i recall correctly, you need to be able to answer the question to change it

I just checked my hotmail account, and the only thing it requires in order to change the password is to type the old password, then type the new password 2x to verify it's correct.

Edit: btw - it's also easy to change the password challenge question if you have account access. Hate to say it, but from my perspective, a compromised account appears to be the most plausible explanation.

My home computer is now repaired and restored, and on "Google" there is an entry by Hotmail stating that there is a major problem with the "hotmail.com" server.
In the meantime, until the problem is resolved, and obviously I cannot access my "diary", my new address which is working is now jeffreylancaster@hotmail.co.uk
Get in touch those who regularly correspond with me. Hopefully we will be back to normal soon !

Good to hear that problem isn't severe like I had anticipated. Sorry if I caused any additional un-needed stress. :o Hopefully they get your regular email account up and running soon.
