Palermo have also lost 2-0 this weekend, away to empoli, also had a player sent off. Hopefully this uefa cup match will prove to be the game that lifts everyones confidence again, and we will surely need to take 3 points against reading on sunday.

I guess its time for Blaine, Konchesky, and Reo-cocker to take a "rest" for this match.

With an excess of strikers, no real wide players (except Ethers) and goal(s) desperately needed would this be a good time to play 4-3-3?

In a way it might give us more width as the left and right strikers could well find themselves being pushed wide alot, allowing Yossi and co to get into the box with the other striker(s).

Last time Yossi was trying to run at the defence through the middle and he could dribble past them or thread a pass through. This time we need to stretch the defence more and get some of our attacking players in behind their back four.

---------------Carroll--------------

Mullins--Collins(?)--Gabbidon--Konch

--Bowyer------Masher------Yossi---

----Tevez---Harewood---Zamora---

Subs:
Green
Dailly
NRC
Etherington
Cole

With a view to almost certainly bringing on Ethers and Cole at some point.

Whos gonna be captain?

4-3-3? he may be desperate for a goal but when was the last time pards played 4-3-3, although when was the last time west ham were down on aggregate?

We played with 3 strikers quite often two years ago, but it really wasn't a 4-3-3 as Harewood played mostly on the right wing.

We overturned a 1 goal deficit on the road vs Metz in the Intertoto. Fatty, Wanchope, and Sinclair scored I think.

Palermo will most likely just sit on the one goal lead, so I expect the match to be West Ham doing all the pressing and spending the match trying to break through. I expect a dull match due to what most Italian clubs do, protect a one goal lead.

palermos chairman has said he hopes his side lose to west ham so they can concentrate on the league...........a bit odd

i think west ham can pull through though

prediction

Some pretty precise predictions with the goals there israel972. I wouldn't put any money on a West Ham game though, no-one can ever predict our results.

I think Boro's approach last season epitomises the nature of this competition and how, if you want to win it, you need to take risks.

When they were losing and about to go out there were times Boro played 3-3-4 and it worked too. I wonder if AP will have the guts to do this if we are losing with 15 mins left.

Maybe Yossi could be captain. Either that or anyone in defence. As much as I like NRC he can't be guaranteed a place when his form is dipping just because we need a captain.

NRC has certainly appeared to be out of sorts recently, although one report I saw named him our man of the match on Saturday! (not saying much I know :( )

Wonder if he really has been unsettled at Arse/Man U's alleged interest as the rumour-mongers would have us believe?

It's all very worrying...

If we play a 4-3-3 with Mullins and Konchesky at fullback we will get stuffed 4 nil at least. Mullins can't play the position period and Konchesky is in bad form that seems to be getting worse rather than improving. I hope Collins is fit to play CB then the football genius can play RB. That is a double win because it keeps dailly out of the middle and Mullins away from RB.

We need Painstil back at RB badly, he looked very dangerous making runs down the right wing and had some classy crosses.

Despite some rumblings I have started this thread.
Team:

Carroll.
Guess? Gabs, Collins (I hope) Konch
Harewood, Massha, Yossi, Ethers,
Tevez, Bobby Z.

Up the Irons

Keep the faith. ( I am just going off to kiss the Blarney stone).

Are you still in Ireland, which could explain why we've gone down the pan since you've been there.

His concentration was focused on the 'Sergio' Cup and look how that turned out :) :D

The Hammers game is on one of the Setanta channels on Thursday at 11.30 (Pacific); I think it's the pub channel. Up the Hammers!

We have to get it sorted out sooner or later. I would prefer sooner rather than later.

Basically, it is a cup final, no tomorrows if we don't just go out and do the business so lets throw out three attackers and go all out.
