Cole's agent has been found guilty in the tapping up palaver. FA said he was a "prime mover" in the case.

Fined £100,000 and banned for 18 months (9 suspended).

Looks like he won't be able to tout Bendter around in the near future.

A right scumbag really! (http://www.thefa.com/TheFA/Disciplinary/NewsAndFeatures/Postings/2006/09/BarnettDecision.htm)

An Independent Disciplinary Commission today heard charges brought against Players' Agent Jonathan Barnett. The Commission have issued the following findings:
On 27 January 2005, a meeting took place at the Royal Park Hotel, Lancaster Gate, and was attended by:-

Pinhas Zahavi
Jonathan Barnett
Ashley Cole, an Arsenal FC contracted player
Peter Kenyon, Chief Executive of Chelsea FC
Jose Mourinho, Manager of Chelsea FC.

Ashley Cole, Chelsea FC and Jose Mourinho have already been dealt with for their breaches of the Rules of The FA Premier League by The FA Premier League.

The Football Association alone has jurisdiction over an Agent such as Jonathan Barnett.

Neither The Football Association nor The FA Premier League have jurisdiction over Pinhas Zahavi.

Earlier today we found the Charges laid against Jonathan Barnett proved, namely

i) Misconduct under Rule E1(e) (the FAPL being a sanctioned Competition), in that he procured the breach of FAPL Rule K5 by Ashley Cole.

ii) Misconduct under Rule E1(d) due to a breach of Paragraph IV of the Code of Professional Conduct to the FIFA Players' Agents Regulations (the Code is enforceable by virtue of Article 8.2 of the FIFA Players' Agents Regulations), In that he failed to respect the rights of a third party, specifically Arsenal FC.

We have taken into account all the matters urged by David Pannick QC on Jonathan Barnett's behalf.

There having been no acceptance by Mr Barnett of his guilt on these Charges, there is no scope for additional mitigation in that respect.

We are wholly satisfied that there is need in this case for an element of deterrence in the sanction we are to impose. We are also wholly satisfied that Mr Barnett was a prime mover in the setting up of the meeting.

We consider this a most serious case of its kind involving as it did a leading English International Player contracted to one of England's premier clubs, namely Arsenal FC, and also involving the Chief Executive and Manager of another leading English premier club, namely Chelsea FC.

The least sanction which we are satisfied we can impose in respect of these Charges is as follows:-

1. Mr Barnett's Football Association Agents Licence will be suspended for a period of 18 months commencing on Monday 16 October 2006. The second nine months period of such suspension will be suspended on condition that he does not, within the 18 month period, breach any Football Association Rule. If Mr Barnett is found by an FA Disciplinary Commission to have breached any FA Rule within the 18 month period, that Disciplinary Commission will have the discretion to activate in whole or in part that nine month period of suspension.

Additionally,

2. Mr Barnett is fined the sum of £100,000.

3. Mr Barnett's personal hearing fee will be retained.

4. Mr Barnett is ordered to pay the full costs of the Disciplinary Commission in accordance with Disciplinary Procedure Rule 8.8(b).

Whats the chances he'll be asking Chelsea to pay his fine ?

I do hope for the sake of any pedestrians about, that Cole isn't driving when Barnett tells Cole that Chelsea told him to eff off when he asked

I'm sure the 100K is just a small bit of what he got for doing the business in the first place.

far too quick. I'd rather his punishment involved gangrene, Thai jails, castration, and that mad bitch from the film 'Audition'

Wow, a nine month ban, the FA is really cracking down. 100 grand is what? About 3-4 months of what he's raking off Coles new deal, i assume.

I wonder if the FA has any clue of what a joke it has become? So far there is no doubt that we have come off much better in the Gallas for Cole sweepstakes.

Agreed. You'd think that, after the Panorama program caused a big furor, they'd make an example of Barnett and give him at least a two year ban. Unfortunately, I keep forgetting that that this is the FA, and it takes them five years to respond to anything.

As for who got the better of the deal, time will tell, but, at some point, I think Cole will become expendable to Chelsea. Just about every other player that they've bought since Roman took over has for the simple reason that a better player comes along. Cole's a very good left back, but you can bet that, if a better LB springs up, Mourinho and Kenyon will be wining and dining him too. That's what Cole failed to realize. The massive amount of cash Chelsea has also means that they have a lack of patience. If they don't win anything this year, you better believe that wholesale changes will be made. And, if he doesn't perform, you better believe his position will be up for grabs as well.

On SSN, they had a interview with Dein. They were asking about Barnett and Cole, and he just had this big grin on his face while he kept saying "I can't comment on that..."

Classic.

Read in a couple places today that he's Kolo's agent. Let's hope KT has the sense to dump him soon.

Has the FA got something right at last? (http://www.arsewars.com/index.php/2006/11/03/has-the-fa-got-something-right-at-last/)

Agent reforms to be introduced by the Football Association.

The FA board yesterday introduced tough new regulations to be introduced from Jan 1.

Amongst others the new rules will outlaw:

1) Agents being paid by clubs. In future all payments to agents must be made by the players they represent. Direct payment by clubs will only be permitted where money is deducted from the players’ salary or benefits.

2) Dual representation where agents act for players and clubs in the same deal. Agents will now only be able to act for one party.

3) Overseas agents acting in deals in England without registering with the FA first.

4) Agents owning an interest, either directly or indirectly, in the registration rights of a player.
