If there were 7.5 spots for the 40+ teams in the Americas the US would likely be in the top 5 or 6 and qualify. If you can come up with 8 teams out of those confederations that are consistently better than the US I applaud you. Whether the US could be in the top 4 out of Conmebol plus the US... that's a different question.
