I'm fairly new to this forum, so excuse me if I'm asking a duumb question, but is the Actim Index a state secret of PA Sport? If I wanted to calculate it myself would I be able to actually figure it out if I had the raw data?
I've been trying to do some analysis (some historical on Canadian WCQ and trying to work with +/- numbers per minute played compared to the team as a whole) and would love to have something to work with.
I liked the +/- because I think it's relatively easy to gather and is somewhat telling. I didn't look at too many players, I just messing around with some basics actually. But I did start to figure out a player's +/- per minute played compared to the team's tally. It's more telling for a whole season, but for players who play all the time it's use is almost neglibigle. For example in the 86 World Cup Maradona was always on the field, so his contribution is the same as anyone else who was always on the field, but doing West Germany I noticed the Germans were significantly better with Karl Heinz Rummenigge on the field. This is largely because he was one of their best players and was injured and therefore only played sporadically in the early part of the tournament. So I was happy to see that something that I saw with my eyes at the time (that West Germany with Rummenigge was much better than it was without him) was backed up by my likely unscientific +/- formula.
While this info is basically useless for a short tournament, I think over a world cup qualifying cycle where numerous players are used it might be a little bit more telling.
But I've never taken a stats class and beyond some work with sports stats for work, I rarely do any math. So I think if I start to try to figure things out for myself there might be no point, but if I had something like the Actim (or something brilliant on of you are all developing) to work with, I'm curious what the results would be.
cheers,
